(Scarlet James)
It hurts. What Drake is doing to get this Shadow out hurts beyond anything I've ever felt. My transformation, losing Caius, and what the Half Moon Pack did...barely compares to what's happening in my body right now. The Shadow is determined to hold on to me, making Drake's job and my freedom even harder.
"I'm not going anywhere, little girl. That angel has his work cut out for himmm," the Shadow tells me, speaking to me for the first time since it inhabited me.
"GET OUT!" my mind screams back.
Drake performs another...prayer, I guess. But nothing he does is working. He's sweating. His black hair is damp and sweat drips down his forehead. He's breathing heavily too. He needs to take a break. I know he's supposed to be some hotshot fallen angel, directly associated with Lucifer, the devil, and all, but this is wearing him out.
The Shadow lets out another scream, arching my back and fighting against my restraints, but continues to cling to my body.
Then there's a knock on the door, and Tristan enters. He looks at me, while the Shadow growls at him. He looks like he hasn't been sleeping, making me wonder how long I've been in here. Then he turns to Drake and says, "You need to eat something. And shower..."
Drake shakes his head, "I've tried everything, man."
Tristan's quiet for a moment before whispering, "It's been five days..."
"There's only one thing I can do now," Drake hesitates, before staring me down.
"Do it. Whatever it takes. You have to save her," Tristan tells him, aggressively.
"I have to ask Lucifer to call the Shadow back. It can't deny him, like you can't defy an Alpha," Drake says.
"Will it be safe for her?" Tristan questions and I can hear the distrust in his voice about including the Devil to heal me.
"For the most part. What we really have to worry about is her health when the Shadow leaves."
"I understand. Do what you have to," Tristan confirms before walking out of the room. I hear him talking to Caius in the kitchen. Drake on the other hand focuses back on me.
"Last chance. Leave the girl or I'll be forced to call upon your master," Drake tells the Shadow. The Shadow just snarls and growls back at Drake. He shrugs, "Don't say I didn't warn you."
Then he takes out his phone and calls someone.
The Devil has a cell phone. What a world we live in.
"I need a favor...I understand but this was not part of the deal you made," Drake frowns, "...I'm all for the cause, you know that and I wouldn't be asking you for this if it wasn't important...I need you to call off the Shadow possessing Scarlet James...no she won't be a threat to the cause, if she even survives the separation...thanks."
Drake comes to sit beside me, something he hasn't done in the past five days. He smooths back my hair and says, "Scarlet, what you will feel next will be worse than what I've been doing to you these past few days. You need to stay strong."
Worse than what he's been doing? I think if I pass out I'll be able to get through it, but maybe not. The Shadow continues to struggle while I watch Drake. He doesn't move away from me. I just want to sleep, that's all I want to do when suddenly an icy feeling courses through me. It's just like when the Shadow first took over my body. Everything got really cold, just like it is now. I can't feel my toes and it starts to get hard to breathe.
My body starts to cramp up and suddenly it feels like it's on fire. My mind is plagued with dark thoughts and visions of hell and evil.
"Hello, Scarlet," a different voice than the Shadow's, whispers in my mind, "you should feel honored that I'm here to save you. I don't save people."
