(Scarlet James)

After breakfast, Keith and I race upstairs to get to the bathroom first, but he takes pity on me and lets me have it. I shower and get into a pair of faded jeans shorts and an orange crop top that reads 'Mistfits' across the chest in black. When I get out of the bathroom, Keith eyes me and smirks, "Well, well, well, how appropriate for Tristan's mate to be wearing that shirt."

"Why, is he a misfit or something?" I ask which makes him grin at me bigger while I walk into my room. Keith doesn't reply as he takes his turn to shower.

I dry my hair before French braiding the top and tying the rest into a ponytail. Then I do my make-up and find some accessories to go with my outfit when my dad calls for me, "Scarlet, you have a visitor!"

I swear to God if it's Caius...

Seeing that I'm ready, I go downstairs to see who's come to see me. To my relief, it's not Caius. It's Tristan.

He came with flowers and as I descend down the stairs, I watch him talking to Dad and the two of them laughing. Tristan sees me first and grins up at me, "Hey!"

"Hey," I smile at him and come to stand before him before he hands me the flowers, "I thought we could go to the picnic together," then he turns to my dad, "if that's okay with you, of course."

Dad puts his hands up, clearly approving of Tristan. He's always liked Tristan. Then Dad leaves us to go find Mom and see if she's ready or not.

"I'm just going to put these in some water," I tell him and beckon him to follow me. He does. I search the cabinets for a vase before finding one and filling it up with water.

"So, I just wanted to tell you that I'm leaving tonight," he starts slowly as I place the flowers in the vase and set it on the countertop.

I look up at him, frowning, "So soon? You just got home. I thought you were staying for a while this time."

"I know, but plans changed and I have to report to my unit," he sighs heavily.

"You mean the Knighthunters," I say.

He watches me, almost as if he's studying me, "Yes...you do know that I'm still a part of that, right? That I still go on missions from time to time."

I didn't know that. I thought he left the Royal army when he started the business.

I shrug and say, "I don't know a lot about you, Tristan." Not anymore.

He reaches over and takes my hand into his, "And I promise to change that."

I simply nod, because all I want to know is why he's lying about being my mate and why Caius is letting him. Tristan sighs and asks, "Are you ready to go?"

"Yes, we probably should," I tell him as we head out.

Tristan comes around and opens my door, like the gentleman he is. I step out and take the arm he offers me. Tristan is dressed in a stripped polo shirt with light blue shorts, similar to my outfit, except while he looks like the golden boy, I look like the rebellious child.

People start waving at us and congratulating us, smiling and awing as we walk by. So this is what it's like to be with Tristan Dorian Asher.

I lean in to tell him, "So your mom as me at the food station. I should probably go help them out."

He frowns, "Are you sure? I can get you out."

I laugh, "As much as I'd love to take advantage of being your mate now, I don't want to let Anna suffer by herself."
