I sat next to my dad as he drove me home. He wouldn't say a word to me after what I had done, beating up Matt, and to make matters worse, in front of my baby sister. Mom had been crying in the office, and she took my car home with Maggie. Thank god for Josh who had quickly carried Maggie out of the room. But I knew she still saw me. That was all it took. But, it was as if there was this voice in my head that would just take control, forcing me to do things I did not want to do.
I had been suspended for a week for my actions, luckily not expelled. But, I did not think my parents would ever forgive me. I had scarred Maggie for life. As we reached the house, I took a deep breath.
"Greyson, go to your room right away," my dad instructed in a soft and monotone voice. I nodded and darted upstairs. I laid on my bed, crying. I felt insane, everything was just going wrong.
As I relaxed a little bit, I decided to read the letter Mom had given to me in the morning. I had not really looked at it yet, but I noticed it was from some sort of hospital or something. I was confused and unsure what it was. I opened it and when I saw Peyton's name at the bottom, I couldn't help but smile. Peyton had written me a letter! I was so happy to see that she was okay and that she had taken the time to write me. I began to read the words.
Greyson-
Hi Grey, it's Peyton. Let me start off by saying, I am okay and I will be okay. But this situation I am in is insane. They plan on removing the gene edit done to me by some form of surgery I am unfamiliar with and it scares me like crazy. They have been treating me decent here, except for that, they lock me up. The place I am in is similar to a hospital, but it sort of like a jail as well. Now, for the scariest part. Those people I was living with were not my parents. When they took my blood, the types did not match up. The search for my real parents has been going on, but they have not found anything yet.
As for us, I heard about what you did to Matt after the game. I understand you were just trying to protect me, but you promised you would not say anything. Greyson, you broke the trust I had for you, and trust is, in my opinion, the most important part in a relationship. I think we need to take a break. But truthfully, I know I may never see you again, so this is a break up I guess. Everything went too fast and the time we spent together was amazing, but I can no longer trust you. If it truly is love, we will find our way back to each other, but I do not think it is looking good.
Best of Luck to You,
Peyton
Oh my god. She broke up with me. She found out about what I had done. She was the one I loved and it was over. I grabbed the letter and tore down the stairs, but I heard my parents speaking in hushed tones. I stood quickly by the door to listen.
"Something is not right, Greyson is never like this," I heard my mom whisper to my dad.
"Greyson is scaring me, he has too much of his birth father in him," my dad replied softly. And then I lost it, again. I tore through the door.
"You are not my biological parents?" I screamed.
"Greyson, you are supposed to be upstairs," my dad reprimanded.
"Answer the question!" I screamed.
"No, we are not," my mom said softly.
"Are you being serious? First, I get suspended, then Peyton breaks up with me, then I find out you guys are not my real parents?" I screeched.
"Wait, Peyton broke up with you?" my dad asked. I shoved the letter into his hands.
"You are ignoring what is important right now! Who are my parents? I need to know! Now!" I demanded.
"Greyson, you need to relax," my mom started to say. I was unable to control anything I was doing.
"What's going on?" I heard a soft voice say. I turned around to see Maggie, her face tear-stained.
"Get out of here Maggie! Why do you always come in at the worst of times?" I screeched at her.
"Maggie, get upstairs," my mom yelled, I could tell she was getting scared of me.
"No! Greyson you can't keep losing it on me! You are going crazy! You need to get a grip!" Maggie screamed at me. And then I did something I will regret for the rest of my life. I slapped my baby sister's cheek.
