* TWO MONTHS LATER*
The last couple of months had gone quite smoothly. School was good and the classes still felt easy to me. Cheer was amazing, and we had actually just gotten third at state, which was a blast! My parents and I had stayed close, and I was still more grateful than ever to have them. All of the girls on the team and I were still very close. Meredith was doing well and she came to visit Josh and me almost every weekend. Josh and I were so close, it was amazing. We were pretty much best friends and we told each other everything.
As for Matt, he had finally given up on taunting Grey and me and just pretty much ignored us, which was the way we wanted it. And Greyson. He was playing the end of the season for football and was incredible. He lead us all the way to the Championships, where we sadly lost by a buzzer beater touch down. We were still just friends, but we hung out all the time, either with our group of friends, me, him, and Josh, or just the two of us. All the awkwardness had melted away, and I was happy that we got to go back to just being the close friends we always had been. My feelings for Greyson were strong, still past just friends. But I did not want to ruin our friendship because of how much I cherished it.
"Peyton, ready to go?" Josh called from downstairs. Winter break had started yesterday and we were so excited. It stunk that Meredith didn't get off today also, it was still two more days until her break started.
"Yeah, just give me one sec," I replied.
"Whenever you say one sec, that means one year, come on," Josh complained. I pulled on a gray, oversized, Adidas crewneck, along with some black leggings and my white beanie.
"I'm coming now," I yelled to Josh, grabbing my lanyard and phone. Today, Josh, Greyson, and I were going ice skating. I trampled down the stairs and I saw Josh scrolling through his phone waiting for me.
"There you are, let's go," Josh said, looking up from his phone. I nodded as we hopped into his Jeep.
"Now that didn't take a year, did it?" I teased.
"It was longer than a second," he sassed back with a laugh, pulling out of the driveway.
"Got me there," I admitted, laughing. We pulled into Greyson's driveway.
"I'll text him that we are here," Josh said, pulling out his phone and texting Grey. "You should probably get in back, you'll fit better than him," he teased. I rolled my eyes and threw myself into the backseat. A few seconds later, Greyson opened up the passenger side door and hopped in.
"Hey, Grey, what's up?" Josh asked.
"Not much, hey Peyton," he replied.
"Hi, you look fancy," I replied sarcastically, referring to his football sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.
"I mean, I always try my best to look perfect you and Josh, " he teased and I laughed. Josh pulled out of the driveway. We all talked and laughed all the way to the ice rink.
Once we reached the rink, we rented skates our skates and paid our admission.
"I'm such a bad ice skater, I've never gotten the hang of it," I admitted and we all laughed.
"You can do it," Josh said as I pulled on my skates.
"I wish," I chuckled as we all walked over to the ice. Josh skated out to the center with ease.
"Come on, P, you got this," Josh encouraged, gesturing for me to come out.
"I'll help you," Greyson said, offering me his hand. I took it as I stepped onto the ice. I wobblily slide across the ice and Grey led me, helping me to keep my balance.
"Hey, you're actually sort of doing it!" Josh called, skating up to me. I let go of Grey's hand started to skate freely, though it wasn't pretty.
"I can do it!" I exclaimed, but before I could finish I fell straight on my butt. The three of us burst out laughing.
"Can you actually?" Greyson asked putting out his hand.
"I meant to do that," I said sarcastically as he helped me up.
"Did you now?" he teased, laughing.
"Smooth, Peyton," Josh laughed. Then, a phone started to go off and Josh pulled his phone out of his bag.
"Oh, I have to take this, it's Mom. I'll be right back," Josh said, exiting the ice, as Grey and I nodded.
"Here let's try this," Grey said, taking both of my hands, which felt a little bit awkward.
"Try what?" I asked. He lifted my arms up and twirled me around. It wasn't very graceful, but at least I didn't fall again.
"Oh my god, you didn't fall!" Greyson teased, giving me applause and I comically bowed.
"Peyton!" I heard a voice call and I turned around to see Josh, waving for Grey and me to come over. We skated over and I could tell by the look in Josh's eyes that something was wrong.
