"Kole, Simone," Mr. Mason growled after I whispered to Greyson. I could tell Grey was shocked by what I had told him, and frankly, I still was shocked myself. I got up to turn in the assignment and Mr. Mason gestured for me to come over.

"Yes?" I asked him.

"Listen, Peyton, I understand you have been through a lot lately, and I was happy to see the email from your parents this morning saying your smarts were natural. But, even though you have been through so many obstacles, I still do not condone you for talking in class. So you will have detention after school today," he instructed.

"Mr. Mason, come on. I apologize for talking, but I honestly was just whispering. Is detention really necessary?" I asked.

"You've been in my class for a while now, you know better," he said, handing me two detention slips. "Please pass the other slip to Mr. Kole." I nodded and walked back to my seat, dropping Greyson's detention slip over his assignment. Greyson picked it up, read it, and rolled his eyes. He looked at me and I lifted mine up, flashing a sarcastic smile. He gave me a silent chuckle.

When the bell rang, I grabbed my books and began to walk out of the classroom.

"Hey, wait up a sec," a voice called. I turned around to see Greyson.

"Hey, what's up?" I asked as we walked out of the room together.

"Of course Mr. Mason would give us detention for whispering," he said with a laugh.

"I know, it's so stupid," I replied.

"I can meet you at your locker after school, then we can walk together," he offered.

"Yeah sure, hopefully, Mr. Mason is not supervising detention today," I replied and he laughed.

"I swear I would die if he was," he said, still laughing as I reached my locker. "See you at the end of the day."

"See ya," I said back. I opened my locker and reached for my French books, and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Josh.

"Hey, I saw Mr. Mason talking to you, everything good?" he asked me. I rolled my eyes and held up the detention slip. "What the heck, Peyton? What did you do?"

"I literally whispered one word to Greyson and he responded, then Mr. Mason gave us both detention," I admitted.

"He's the worst, how long is the detention?" he asked.

"45 minutes after school today," I explained.

"Shoot, Peyton. I have to be home pretty quick to grab my football stuff, maybe Greyson could take you home," he offered.

"Yeah, probably. I'll ask him," I confirmed.

"You sure you feel comfortable riding with him?" Josh questioned.

"Yeah. I'm good," I said.

"Okay, if anything changes let me know. See you later," he said.

"I will. See ya," I said. He flashed me a smile and walked off. I was so thankful for Josh, he really had made coming back to school a lot easier.

"Oh my gosh, Peyton?" someone called. I turned around to see Danielle and a super tall, muscular guy with messy blonde hair and dark brown eyes.

"Danielle!" I exclaimed and submerged her in a hug.

"I missed you so much, girl! I'm happy you are okay!" she expressed.

"I missed you too, at least it's all over," I said to her with a smile.
