Today was the day, the day the hurricane strikes. Surprisingly the school didn't cancel that day. Only because the school couldn't afford missing any other days. Today it was extremely windy and ungodly humid, it was almost unbearable to go outside. But students still went, and they all regretted it.

"C'mon Reese, if we're not ready in time, we'll have to walk" Zach said to his sleepy sister.

"But Zachy, I want to sleep" She whined. Zach almost gave in but refused. A decision he would strongly regret.

"Please Reese I walked to school by myself yesterday and it wasn't fun, I don't want to put you through that too." Zach reassuringly said to her.

"Well ok." She said with a cheeky smile.

As Reese got ready Zach knocked on his little brother Ryan's door.

"Come in!" He yelled from the other side.

Zach slowly opened the door to see that Ryan was already ready for school.

"Can you do me a favor, please?" Zach mumbled.

Ryan rolled his eyes, "Sure, what is it?"

"Can you wake up mom and dad? Since, well, you know." Zach said sadly.

"Yeah, I got ya bro" He said sliding past Zach who mumbled thanks.

Ryan was on/off with Zach, he wasn't sure if he should hate him like his parents, or actually care like Reese. Zach knew that already and understood, but he still tried to win his brother over himself, whether it be through video games or just talking.

Today Zach wanted to actually have a conversation with Ryan, no matter how long it may be.

"Hey, Zach they said that they would drop us off in 15 minutes." Ryan said ploping onto the couch.

"Thanks, Ry" Zach said sitting next to him.

"Are you scared to talk to me?" Zach asked.

"Kinda, like I don't know what dad would do if he saw me talking or hanging out with you." Ryan said nervously.

"I understand, but I never hear about your life unless its mom boasting about it," He started "so tell me about your school life."

"I don't exactly know what to talk about..." Ryan mumbled.

"Well, any girls catching your eye?" Zach said nudging him.

"I mean there's this one girl-"

They actually had a casual conversation. Zach loved it more than anything.

As Zach heard their parents getting Reese, he had to tell Ryan one more thing.

"Ry, just know that even though we are apart 99% of the time, we're still brothers and I love you." Zach said with a smile.

"I-"

"C'MON KIDS LET'S GO" Their mom yelled, snagging her keys from the kitchen counter.

Everyone expect his dad left the small apartment and into a dusty old Jeep.

The Jeep was small, it was barely able to hold the whole family. It was also black, but you could barely see it due to all the dirt and dust covering it.

They pulled up to the High School, since the elementary/middle school was just across the street.

The 3 siblings got out of the car, Reese whined that she didn't wanna leave Zach's side yet. So since there was 15 minutes till school started, Zach let her stay with him.
