Aetherian(Part 1): A War Begins

House Vestarr

One of the oldest houses in Aetherian, if not the oldest, House Vestarr rules over the frigid, frozen Snowlands. It is unclear exactly when it happened, but all that is known is that the first northerners migrated to Aetherian during the Age of Ancients after their homeland in the islands to the north of the continent froze over. The ancient people were the first to name the continent the name that it is known by today, giving it the name 'Aetherian', meaning 'Haven' in the Ancient Tongue. Although after the Dragon War, the Snowlands soon froze over with thick layers of ice and snow themselves, that wasn't always the case. The north was once home to rolling, green plains and vast forests of conifers and various kinds of evergreens. It snowed in the winter, but it only snowed in the winter. Without the harsh environment of the northern islands to give them a reason to unite, the northerners constantly waged war for thousands of years for control over the north, until Allard Vestarr smashed their armies. With the end of the Northern Wars, House Vestarr became Northern Kings. The Dragon War would change that.

With the rise of the Great Dragons, the first action of one of them, the Dragon of Ice and Snow, in particular, flew over all the north and south of Zenartha with his icy breath that caused devastating winter that lasted for the entire first half of the Dragon War, until he was slain. Even after the Great Ice Dragon fell in combat, the far northern regions never recovered from his snowstorm, and Aetherian was the worst that was affected. Throughout the year, snow covers the northern half of Aetherian, with no signs of melting any time soon. It was only after Kidar was slain, though, and the Dragon War ended, that House Vestarr knelt before Gunnar Karvine as Kings, and rose as High Lords of Aetherian's Snowlands, and Lords of Snowfall.
