The country of Aetherian is Zenartha's largest, and one of its most war-torn countries, but it didn't use to be a single country. Aetherian was once six different kingdoms, each ruled by its own King. The Northern King ruled from House Vestarr in the Snowlands, the House Redwald ruled the southern Sandlands, House Williams ruled the Windlands, the Lysanders ruled the Highlands, House Ingram ruled the Swamplands, and the Craglands were ruled by House Busch. Aetherian remained divided for thousands of years, waging war with itself constantly, until the Dragon War. For two hundred years, all of Zenartha, not just Aetherian, was nearly torn apart by a devastating conflict between the eight Great Dragons. The two biggest belligerents were Araxes, the Great Dragon of the Sun, and Kidar, the Great Dragon of the Abyss, and they fought in Aetherian. It was clear that six divided kingdoms could never stand against the Dragon of the Abyss alone, so a Guardian Knight named Gunnar Karvine united them. Once he convinced them to fight together and mounted Araxes himself, the Dragon War ended, with the death of Kidar. Peace was restored, and the six kingdoms of Aetherian looked to Gunnar Karvine to keep them united, naming him their King. Though his Guardian oath forbade him from wearing a crown or title of any kind, he accepted the crown in order to keep the country united, and House Karvine was born, with a chair made from the scales and bones of Kidar as Gunnar's throne. The Karvine dynasty lasted for ten thousand years, fending off attacks from other countries, and putting down rebellion from other houses, until Robar Busch. The Mountain Lord rose in rebellion against the Karvines, smashing their armies, and slaying their dragons, along with the King himself. The two eldest children of the King were sent away to the eastern country of Alessia, hoping to remain hidden from Robar, while the younger ones remained in Aetherian, as wards of House Vestarr. House Busch now sits on the Dragon Throne, but are oblivious to the threat that has yet to resurface after ten thousand years.
