It had been a few days since I had agreed to go to New York for the Summer when I find myself standing in the airport.

Ben had woken me up early this morning and told me he had to catch the early flight back to  New York and thought it best for me to tag along, which of course, I needed to argue against.

"Why?" I asked sleepily, rubbing my eyes and sitting up in bed.

"Mom and Dad thinks maybe an extended visit would be good for you, well for both of us actually." Ben says, sitting at the bottom of the bed.

I close my eyes and groan, laying back down and covering my face with my arms, "I'm not even packed!" I grumble.

"Don't worry about that, Mom did that for you." Ben says, patting my leg and standing, "you're gonna love New York V, you just gotta give it a chance."

I roll my eyes and look over at him, "Seriously? That's the part you're worried about?"

Ben shrugged, "don't be such a grump! Came on, think of it as a spontaneous adventure!"

And that is how I was dragged from the warmth and comfort of my bed to the cold confinements of this airport.

I lay sprawled across my pre-packed suitcase (courtesy of mother dearest) and stare up at the ceiling, waiting for the great voice in the sky to direct me towards whatever this trip to New York had in store; Would it be bliss? Would it be hell on earth? Would I come away feeling refreshed and hopeful for my future relationship with Ben? Or go away feeling even more distant from him and feeling ever so more miserable about it...? Who knows!

"you comfy down there?" Alex's voice asked from above me, I exhale deeply and look up at him, "it's like laying on a cloud of marshmallows!" I exclaim sarcastically.

"Well scoot over then, don't hog it!" he shoots back, pushing me over and laying down next to me, shuffling a little uncomfortably, "you lie to meeeee!!" he whines, sprawling his arms and legs over me, I shove him off, "I'm so gonna miss all this!" I laugh, smiling over at him, sitting up on the suitcase.

Alex chuckled, sitting up from the dirty floor of the airport, "me too."

I shrug, "oh well, I guess I'll just have to find another Alex in New York."

He scrunched his nose up and hung his mouth open in mock disbelief, "excuse me! Alex Stevenson is one of a kind! You can't replicate this kind of essence!" he says, standing and gesturing to himself dramatically.

I roll my eyes, standing and brushing myself off, "oh don't worry, I'll try my very hardest."

He smiles at me, his green eyes shining with a sadness I hadn't seen in a long time, I smile back, hugging him tightly, "I'll be back before you know it..." I whisper in his ear.

Alex hugged back just as tightly, "I'll be fine, won't even notice your gone."

I can't help but choke up a laugh, feeling the tears sting my eyes once more.

A voice over the intercom signalled that it was time to go so I pull away from my hug with Alex and go over to the rest of my family.

Hugs and kisses and emotional farewells ensued before picking up my stuff and turning to leave but Mom pulled my arm gently, "remember to try and enjoy yourself these next few months."
