I lay in bed that night in a daze; a big goofy smile plastered to my face, the conversation I had with Sky still lingering in my head....the way his hand felt on mine. The way he asked if he could kiss me. the way he kissed me...
He kissed me!
I couldn't think straight, I couldn't close my eyes to try and sleep, my stomach was doing somersaults and my heart was skipping so many beats I was afraid it might stop all together. I tossed and turned for a little bit, feeling restless and not knowing what to do with myself.
Accepting defeat, I sit up in bed and grab my phone. I needed to tell somebody about this incredible thing I just experienced, and seeing as Josh was out and I sure as hell wasn't telling Ben about this anytime soon, I decided to call Alex, hopefully I wasn't waking him.
Getting out of bed carefully, I tip toe across the floor to the door, being careful not to wake Ben, slipping out of the room and closing the door gently behind me.
I make my way to the kitchen and make myself some coffee (I'm not getting much sleep tonight, so why not?). I then go to the contacts on my phone and scroll to Alex's number and call him. After a few rings, he picks up.
"Sup' Liv!" Alex's cheery voice sings from the other end of the line.
"Hey Lex, you weren't sleeping were you?" I ask, putting on my slippers and taking my coffee out to the fire escape.
"Nah, I was just doing some late night studying and finishing a homework assignment for Mr. Spencer's class, what's up?"
I huff out a sigh.
Where do I begin? I think to myself.
"A lot of stuff's happened over the last few days..." I begin, taking a sip from my coffee cup. "Ben's getting better, not throwing up anymore, me and Sky went out for pizza and we kissed, Demarius called me in a panic needing help with a painting at the theatre--"
"Woah Woah Woah! Back it up girl! You and Sky did what now?!"Alex shouts, interrupting my spiel abruptly.
"We went out for pizza," I say, still sipping my coffee.
"After that!" Alex snapped impatiently, the excitement very present in his voice.
"Oh...we kissed?" I say, the smile creeping back onto my face as me and Alex squeal together.
"Oh my lord! Praise Jesus hallelujah! My girl's gettin' IIITTT!!" Alex practically screamed down the phone, I can't help but laugh, rolling my eyes at his dorkiness. he's adorable.
"Okay, I need all the details! SPILL IT!" He demanded.
I take a deep breath. " Well, We went out for pizza at this adorable restaurant, next time you're here we have to go!" I begin, finishing my coffee off.
"And...?" Alex sings, my smile grows even bigger.
"And...I had to leave because Demarius called me with an emergency." I say, pouting slightly.
"Okay...so how does the kiss come into this?"
"Well...after I got back from Demarius's emergency at the theatre, Sky stopped by and gave me the rest of the pizza that I left there, then he asked if he could kiss me and...we did!"
Alex cheered, sounding just as excited as I was. "Baby Girl! This is FABULOUS!!"
I kick out my legs and giggle like a 5 year old. "I KNOW!!"
I hear someone shout at the other end of the line nut I can't make out what they said. I then hear Alex shout something back before coming back to me. "Have you told Ben about any of this?" he asked, his voice noticeably lower than before. The voice from before must've been his Mom telling him to be quiet.
"Of course not!" I say, my voice also going a few decibels lower. "He'd flip his lid!"
"Truuuee..." Alex agrees, drawing out the word slowly.
I go to say something else when I hear a knock coming from the door in the apartment.
"Lex, there's someone at the door, I'll call you back." I say, hanging up without saying goodbye (I'll have to apologise to him later, he'll understand...hopefully.)
I make my way back inside, placing my empty coffee mug onto the coffee table before going to the door and unlocking it. I open the door, rubbing my eyes as I did, not thinking to check the key hole, (just in case it was a murderer or something!) as three voices shouted "SURPRISE!" in unison.
I jump at the sudden noise, blinking a few times and looking at the three figures standing in the doorway. It was Emma, Mom and Dad.
My eyes widen and my smile broadens as Emma engulfs me in a tight hug. I wrap my arms around her, hugging her just as tightly back.
"You're here!" I practically squeak, hugging my Mom and Dad just as tightly. "Not that I'm not happy to see you, I am but...why are you here?" I ask, letting them all in and shutting the door.
"We wanted to see how you've been settling in." Mom explains, taking her coat and scarf off and putting it on the back of one of the dining room chairs.
Emma put's an arm around my shoulder. "And I'm off college for the week, so I came over to see my little sis!"
I smile at her, putting an arm around her.
"What's with all the noise?" A groggy voice asks from behind us. I turn and see Ben, rubbing his eyes and staring at us. He froze for a second, looking between me, Emma, Mom and Dad for a second before his eyes widen.
"Mom? Dad?" He questions, still looking bewildered. "Emma? What are you guys doing here?!" He asks, giving them all a hug one by one.
"Came to check up on the two of you!" Dad says, nudging Ben playfully.
"What? You think we'd ring each others necks by now?" I ask, folding my arms over my chest.
Emma shrugged. "Wouldn't put it past the two of you."
"We've been getting along just fine thank you very much!" Ben cuts in, putting an arm around my shoulder. "I don't think we've had one argument since V arrived."
"Well that's new..." Mom mumbles, sitting down on the couch.
I turn to her. "What's that supposed to mean?"
She turns to me, shaking her head and chuckling to herself. "You two were at each others throats all the times, not to mention the tricks you both played on each other!"
"I don't remember that." Ben shrugged. I huff out a laugh, patting his chest lightly. "Oh dear brother...I sure do!"
How could I forget?! The sardines in my sneakers, the cactus under my pillow, the cream pie he shoved in my face at my 6th birthday party...it's hard to forget all those things, and the times he never got in trouble for it, then again, the things I did to him were just as bad.
Ben shrugged again."Well, you can't expect siblings to get on all the time now can you?"
We all laugh, it feels good.
"Well, sorry to arrive at such short notice--" Mom began but Ben lifted his hand.
"No worries at all, you got anywhere to stay tonight?"
Dad shook his head. "Unfortunately no, this trip was kinda last minute."
"That's alright, you can crash here a few days."
"Really? You sure?" Emma asked, putting a hand on Ben's shoulder.
"Of course! No trouble at all. Liv, you mind if Mom and Dad take the air mattress?"
I jump up off the couch. "Absolutely not, I do not mind at all, they can have it!" I say a little too quickly and heading to Ben's room to fetch the air mattress.
I'd take the couch, the rug next to the TV even the damn fire escape...
I think Mom, Dad and Emma staying here could be pretty cool.
