"Hey Samantha." Clarke greeted the dark haired girl as she entered the hut. She shook off her jacket and hung it by the door.
"Oh hey!" Samantha called as she looked up from the teenage boy's leg that she was cleaning. Clarke spotted the cut on his shin.
"Here, I'll finish up here. You're officially relieved from duty." Clarke smiled as she picked up a bandage.
"Thanks." Samantha smiled and left Clarke so she could go and wash her hands.
Clarke sat down on the stool that Samantha had just left and opened the bandage. She wrapped it tightly around the boys leg and instructed him to keep it clean and dry for the next twenty four hours.
Within minutes she was finished and the teen thanked Clarke before jumping off the table and leaving her alone. Clarke checked all her patients, making sure they were comfortable and fetching them food and water. She was hesitant about checking her last patient. A boy named Nathan had received a bad head injury and was known to have random spouts of anger. He'd forget where he was and attack. Bellamy had suggested keeping separate from the other patients but Clarke dismissed the idea. She hadn't told Bellamy that he'd tried to attack her once before. Luckily Samantha was with her and the two of them managed to restrain him and sedate him long enough to get him back in bed. Nathan had awoken hours later and couldn't remember a thing. Clarke decided then that she'd keep it between her and Samantha to avoid anyone panicking.
She shook her head and scolded herself for her hesitation. He was asleep, nothing would happen to her. It was her job to look after the sick and injured that entered the hut. She wouldn't be doing a good job if she refused to care for a patient because of her nerves.
Clarke slowly removed the bandages from Nathan's head and began to inspect his wound. She was satisfied that it was healing nicely with no signs of infection. Just as she was about to replace his dressings, his eyes shot open and his hand clamped around her wrist.
"Nathan, it's me. It's Clarke. I'm just checking your injury." Clarke said quickly. She tried to remain calm but Nathan's vice like grip on her wrist was beginning to hurt and Clarke began to panic.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT! WHO ARE YOU!" Nathan started to yell.
"Nathan it's me, it's Clarke. I'm just trying to help you." Clarke repeated.
Suddenly his arm flew up and Clarke fell to the floor from the sudden impact his arm had made with her jaw. There would be a bruise there later. She clambered to her feet again and tried her hardest to restrain him. But he was too strong. His panic and confusion was giving him strength that Clarke couldn't compete with. His hand wrapped around her throat and Nathan hurled her across the room. She landed on her back and winced when her head collided with something hard. Her vision swam momentarily and Clarke struggled to get to her feet. Nathan began to advance on her, a menacing look clouding his eyes.
Clarke didn't know what else to do. She couldn't restrain him alone and Samantha had already left. So she did the only thing she could think of.
She screamed for help.
It didn't take long for people to rush into the hut and help her. Bellamy was at her side the moment he stepped foot in the door. Finn, Murphy and Lincoln restrained Nathan, and Bellamy ordered them to tie him to the bed.
"You okay?" Bellamy asked Clarke as he helped her stand.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Clarke said. Her breath was shaky and Bellamy could feel her trembling beneath his hands. She wasn't fine, she was terrified.
"What the hell happened?!" Bellamy asked as he looked around the trashed room.
"Nothing, I just scared him when I went to change his bandages. He didn't mean to hurt me." Clarke hurried to say. She knew Bellamy would turn protective and she didn't want Nathan getting hurt because of something he couldn't control.
