"Scarlett! Oh my god! Where are you? I have news! Oh my god Scareltt! Get your ass over here!"
I put my book down on the blanket that is a mess on top of my bed and walk towards the yells. I walk out my room and check Cara's room to only find an empty room. I then go check the living room, still no sign of the blonde. Lastly, I walk into the kitchen to find her standing by the counter of the island with a huge smile on her face. Confused, I ask, "What is going on? That smile you got going on has me creeped out."
"Just come here damn it. I need to tell you something." She says as she motions for me to join her at the stools. I walk cautiously over to my best friend and sit down. I look at her waiting for her to speak. She smiles and lets out an inhuman noise. "Jake asked me to be his girlfriend!" She practically screams.
My mouth falls open then forms into a smile. "Aww my best friend has a boyfriend now," I say as I jokingly pinch her cheek.
She swats my hand away from her face. She suddenly stops for a moment and looks out the corner of her eye. Then she states, "Scar, your phone is ringing."
I look at her out of shock, "How can you even hear that? It's in my room under my blanket." I stand and jog to my room to answer my phone. I grab the Galaxy S3 and look at the screen.
Incoming Call from: Your favorite brother
I smile at the name displayed on the screen.
"Hello?" I ask.
"Scarlett! I've been trying to get in touch with you for the past week. Has your phone been off or something?"
"Jay, you know that I can't live without my phone. I haven't seen that you've called or text. But you have me now. What's up?"
"Oh I know Scar. Oh yea. I called cause Mom has been sick lately. She has been going to to doctor like once a week to make sure everything is okay with her. We went today and he said that Mom may have to go into the hospital soon just to rehydrate her and give her some vitimans that she's lacking."
"Oh. Umm. Okay. Is she alright? Do I need to come home for a while and stay with her? I can talk to my boss at the bakery. She's Cara's aunt. I can easily come home."
"Scar. No no. You don't need to come home. Mom is fine right now. I just wanted to tell you what's going on, you know, in case something does go wrong."
I put my hand over my eyes. "Jay please don't talk like that. You know how worried I am about Mom since I'm here in New York and she's in Louisiana with you. Even if something did happen it would take alot a time for me to get back home. So if something does start to happen, call me as soon as possible so I can get there as fast as I can." I let out a sigh and sit down on my bed. I feel like crying at the thought of my mom being so sick that I have to rush back to the place I swore I'd never return to.
"Scar. I promise I'll call if something happens. I hope that I won't have to call you with that kind of news but I'll try to keep in touch with you as much as I can to keep you updated about Mom." He pauses for a moment and I hear him let out a breath "Scar. You know that Dad misses you right? He asks me and Mom about you all the time."
"Jay can we just please not talk about him?"
"No matter how much you try to run and hide from the problems between you two, they will always be right there behind you."
I can't seem to form any words. The words Jay just said keep replaying in my mind. I quickly mumbled, "I gotta go." I press the end call button and just sit on the side of my bed staring at the wall.
