It wasn't until the ringing of my phone waking me, that I knew I had fallen asleep. I answer the phone without even looking at the name on the screen. "Hello?" I say groggily.

"Scar? Were you asleep?" Sam's voice spills through the speaker.

I yawn, "Mhmm."

"Oh. I didn't mean to wake you. You can go back to sleep."

"No. It's fine. I didn't mean to fall asleep anyways. What time is it anyway?"

"Umm. It's 6 here so 5 over there."

I swing my legs over the side of my bed, "Yea. I need to get up and cook something for dinner anyways."

I hear the close of a car door and lots of voices and noises  "I can't wait to see you." He admits.

I smile as I walk out of my room and towards the kitchen, "I know. I can't wait for you to go to one of the ultra sounds. Jay was impressed with it."

"Yea. I'm really sorry that I couldn't make it to the first one. I really wanted to be there." He trails off.

I reach for the box of noodles and the jar of spaghetti sauce in the pantry then adjust the phone on my shoulder. "I know. I wanted you to be there too, but there will be a million more for you to come to. I promise."

"Yea. I guess so."

I hear my mom calling for me from the living room. "Hey Sam. Hold on a second. Mom's calling for me."

"Oh I'll let you go. Just call me later."

I agree and hang up. I walk into the living room and see Mom sitting on the couch and a man sitting in the recliner. I try to avoid eye contact with him as long as possible. "Yea Mom?"

She sets the remote down and looks at me in the doorway. "Are you cooking? I thought I heard something in the kitchen."

I nod, "I'm cooking spaghetti. Is that alright?"

I see a smile appear on my mother's face. "Of course. I always loved your spaghetti. I actually missed it."

I smiles back at her, "Well it will be ready soon."

I can sense Him looking at me but I turn and go back into the kitchen to continue dinner. Once I had everything cooking I sat down at the table. I saw a text from Braden.

Hey wanna hang out tonight?

I texted back.

Yea sure. I'm cooking dinner if you want to come over and we can talk here?

I received a quick 'Sure' from Braden.

I set my phone down as He walked into the room. He sat in the chair across from me at the small table. He placed his arms on the table and leaned into them as if trying to get closer to me. "You mother told me that you've been here for a while. Why is this the first time I'm seeing you then?"

I look away from him. "Maybe that's because I didn't want you to see me."

"Oh c'mon. That's no way to speak to your father."

"Step father." I correct him.

"Your real father didn't want you. I did, and this is how you treat me?"

I swallow hard trying to keep the tears from spilling over the bottom of my eyes. His mouth opened, I'm sure to make a comment about me being weak because I was about to cry, but my phone ringing again stoped him.

I quickly answered it. "Hello?"

"Hey little Sis. I'm gonna be a little late. Whatever we have for dinner, can you put some aside for me in the microwave please?"
