I dropped the plastic stick and backed up until I felt my back hit the wall. My hand was over my mouth as I slid down the wall and onto the floor. I guess Jay heard the noise because just moments later my brother walked in and sat down next to me on the floor. He picked up the test, looked at it and just hugged me. I buried my face into his shirt and let my tears fall. I'm pregnant with Sam's baby. I'm only 22 years old. I work in a bakery. I don't know if I can even raise a kid. How am I even going to tell Sam?
I felt Jay's hand rubbing my back softly, trying to get me calm down enough to talk to me. When I was calm, Jay pulled away. He passed his thumb under my eyes to catch the moisture that was present. "Scarlett. Everything is going to be okay. Remember what you always say? Everything happens for a reason. You just have to wait and see what this reason is. Like I said earlier, I'm here for you, always. I'm not going anywhere."

Later in the week I had gone to the doctor and he had confirmed that I was in fact pregnant. Since then I have been trying to take it easy. The only person that knows so far is Jay. I was on my way to go check on Mom in the living when I heard the voice of the man I've been trying to avoid. I turn around and walk into my brother's room. Jay was picking up a shirt that was on the floor and looked at me with a confused look on his face.
I shake my head. "He's out there."
He walks over to the door and looks out into the hallway. "Are you talking about Dad?"
"No shit I'm talking about Dad."
He walks back in the room, "Why don't you just go out there and get the awkward first hello out the way. Hopefully after that it won't be all weird between you two."
I glared at my brother. "I was hoping to not speak or even see him while I was home."
"And how were you going to do that? He lives in this house with Mom. I'm only here to help take care of Mom while she's home. If she wouldn't be sick, I'd be at my apartment."
I just groaned. Maybe I can just go drive around for a little while and talk to Sam.
"Hey Jay? Can I use your car for a little while? I want to call and talk to Sam but I don't wanna do it in this house."
He tossed the keys at me. "If you wreck it, you're buying me a new one. Now get out my room." He said jokingly. I let out a laugh and agreed.
I walk down the hallways and into the kitchen quickly trying to avoid my parents. I made it out of the house and into Jay's car without making confrontation with Him.
After a few minutes of driving, I take out my phone and dial Sam's number. It rings and rings. It then sends me to voice mail. I dial Cara's number hoping she'll answer my call. She picks up the phone after 2 rings.
"Hey girl hey!"
I laugh, "Hey there."
"What's up? You like freaked out and hung up on me last time we talked."
I swallow hard, "Yea. Sorry about that."
"Do you wanna tell me what all that was about?"
I pull into a parking lot of a grocery store and park the car. "Cara, if I tell you this will you please promise me that you won't tell anyone and not to freak out?"
"Oh no. This doesn't sound good. Just please tell me that you don't have an STD."
"Jesus Cara. Of course I don't have an STD. Like why would that even be your first though?"
