The sky was grey, red, orange, and black, the clouds ominous. It was extremely loud, shouting and explosions and pops and bangs filling the air. The ride was not a smooth one whatsoever. The complete opposite, actually. His hands were gripped firmly on the handles of the flyer's controls. Everyone behind him was being jostled around. However, he knew what he was doing. He was trained for this. He watched as the other flyer, known as Starcharge 92, went up in flames to Jay's left, plummeting to the ground far below.
"Oh, sh--" He began, but was cut off by another explosion.
"Hey shorty," said Jay's co-pilot, "if we don't make it out of here alive, I want you to know--"
The alarms flashed red.
"Look out!" Shouted the co-pilot, whom Jay knew, but couldn't remember his name.
Before they could react, a nuclear missile hit their flyer, sending them to the ground in flames. Everyone screamed, prayed, swore, or closed their eyes and waited for the impact. Jay and the co-pilot tried to regan control for a softer landing that may have saved lives, but were unable to.
"Shorty!" Shouted his co-pilot. The world seemed to go quiet as Jay looked over to him. "You're my best friend, and I want you to know:"
Jay looked into his best friend's eyes.
"I love you!"
They crashed into the Earth, nuclear weapons still blowing up. Jay had knocked out from the collision, only to wake up after possibly a week or so. He wasn't sure. He was sore everywhere, and he wasn't in control of his body. It felt like his humanity was trapped in a cage, left to watch what the strange new part of him did. He was much taller than he used to be, which threw him off a bit, but he'd soon get the hang of his incredible size.
Eventually.
"Remember what, Jay?" Asked JP, sending Jay back to reality.
"... A war caused this."
"A war?! Like, a nuclear war?"
"Duh." He said bluntly. "I was the pilot of this flyer. Her name's... Starcharge 93. I think."
"Who was the war against?"
"Uh... I-I can't remember."
"Oh..." Jonathan stood next to him. "Okay, so now we know you were apart of the air force... Were you the only one that made it out alive?"
"I don't know. I was knocked out when we crashed."
"That's insane."
"It is."
"... Dude..."
"... I know..."
"Wait, if this was a battlefield, then..." JP looked up the ditch, then began to run out, slipping a bit. Jay helped the little one he was protecting to climb out of the ditch. "Whoa..."
"What?" Jay climbed out and stood next to Jonathan, then held the same expression the boy held. How did we not see this before? He asked himself, staring at the ditches created by the flyers and missiles. A broken tank was in one of the ditches, along with other weapons.
"... We should look around. Scavenge for anything useful." Said Jonathan, beginning to walk into another ditch.
"Right." Jay went in the opposite direction, looking into a flyer that said 'Starcharge 84' on its rusted, broken side. Why are they all called Starcharge again? He asked himself, before saying, "Man, who caused all of this?"
He stepped into the rickety flyer, causing it to teeter from his two hundred and thirty two pounds of weight. He rummaged through a drawer, ignoring the glowing beatles his mutated side liked to eat as they crawled out of their hiding spot. He found only ashes in the drawer. That and the larva the beatles left behind. He closed that drawer and checked another one, seeing the same thing in that drawer too.
"Hey, Jay!" Shouted Jonathan. "I found a notebook!"
Jay turned in the direction his voice was coming from. "Is it damaged?!"
"Only on the outside!"
"Good! We'll read it later!"
"Okay! Find anything?!"
"Not yet!"
"Well, keep lookin'!"
"That's what I'm doin'!"
"Okay!"
Jay looked back at the drawers, sifting through things to see if anything whatsoever survived. He knew it was only a matter of time before his mutated side took over, so he had to work fast.
