So I only got two replies back, one in person and one in the comments. The comments, from my friend SunsetFox1331, said I should start the rewrite, while the friend who came to me in real life, RemyZorba, said I should keep going until the end. So, as you can see, it's fifty-fifty. What I've decided to do because of this is compromise: I will rewrite as well as keep writing the book. Which means after every published chapter, I will rewrite another, if I already wrote the rewritten version. I don't really have the rewrite set up yet, but I am almost done with the first chapter. I'll post on my message board when I do start doing this. This also means I need you guys to do something too, and that is to go back and read the rewrite when it is up. So, yeah. Hope this works out :) Now onto the story! (This is actually one of my favorite chapters, to be honest. Also, this chapter is longer than the original one because I added A LOT, so prepare for lots of reading).
The unlikely pair ended up staying with Taffy for quite awhile. In the apocalypse, it proved that windshields were hard to come by. Most of the time, Jonathan and Jay went to scavenge in the city, mainly because:
1.) Avoid Taffida
2.) Make sure JP didn't go insane because of the lady
And 3.) Jay needed the exerciseSometimes, like today, Jay would go out alone. It hardly ever happened because of how protective he was over JP, but when he did leave, he spent his time exploring the city. It was nice for the big guy to get some alone time, but on the other hand, it made him uneasy about leaving JP. Yet Jay knew it would be good for him to have some personal space. Everything had been so hectic for a long time, and he just needed to unwind.
Jay growled as he passed the dead lion-dog, his feathers ruffling by instinct to make him appear bigger. In the distance, a flock of birds screamed as they flew above the crumbling buildings. A mutated frog hissed in the grass. Jay took a moment to scratch his feathery head with his right foot, making a few blue feathers fall to the ground. When he was done, he noticed a redish-orange glow coming from inside one of the buildings, moving around as if someone or something were walking.
The humanoid snarled at the building, stepping back a bit and glaring at the structure. A screech Jay Feather hadn't heard in a long time echoed in the broken down office building, the glowing lights making their way towards the entrance. He spotted a pair of red eyes just below the glow, and as it came closer, the glows formed into the shapes of two horns curving backwards. He braced himself as the door began to open. A figure with bloody armour, a sleek red tail, and a pair of cardinal wings ran at him as soon a the door was opened, screeching at him. Jay roared back and ran at the challenger, making it falter slightly in its pursuit. It probably didn't think he was going to run to the danger... Leaping at him, the cardinal humanoid brought the other to the ground with surprising force, continuing to get up off of him and roar in his face.
Jay bit its nose, making it yelp and jump back. That gave him enough of an opening to trip it with his tail and run off, rushing down the abandoned streets as he tried to lose the humanoid. A large shadow past him, and he looked up to see the humanoid flying above on massive wings. He hissed and ran back the other way, causing the beast above to nearly lose its balance as it tried to turn. The human inside of his body was on edge, screaming at the mutant to go faster. Jay Feather ran as fast as he could, going down on all fours to hopefully gain more speed.
However, that was a mistake. He didn't have thick calluses on his hands as he did on his feet, and due to that, it made him slow down. He got back up on his twos, the other humanoid flying closer than before. He looked up again to see where the other was, glaring at how close they truly were. He skidded to a halt, glaring and spitting acid up at the figure like a hose would spew water. It dodged the stream skilfully, mocking him as it hissed down at him. Growling, he let another stream loose, the humanoid above swirving out of the way yet again. The acid hit a nearby building, and due to its already horrible condition, it began to collapse. Terrified, the two began to rush out of the way, the humanoid in the sky flying higher.
