Before we get into this chapter, I wanted to address something. My friend has been helping me find all the problems with this book so I know what to fix in the rewrite. So that's good, because no one was telling me what I was doing wrong, and now I know how to give you guys an even better book. But, I am very impatient to get to the rewrite, and I really want to do it now. So here is something I've been thinking about for a bit: Either I delete chapters and start at the beginning and carry you all along for the rewrite, OR I continue the book until I get to the end, then start the rewrite.
The pros of the first option would be a better story for you guys to read now, but the cons would be that we'd start all the way at the beginning again.
The pros of the second option would be that we continue on with this story and see how it ends without any stops or hesitations, but the cons would be that no one could show up for the rewrite and not read the better version of this story.
What do you guys think I should do? Option 1 or 2? Please comment and tell me, and if you don't want to be wordy, you can just put 1 or 2. Alright, now that I cleared that out of the way, let's get to the story.
"Wow, this place was hit pretty hard." I said to Jay. We were standing on a cliff, overseeing a large city. The buildings were crumbling, and vines grew wherever they pleased. Traffic lights were hanging by their wires, still attached to their bent poles as they swayed in the wind like wind chimes. The clouds were brown, red, a bit of purple, and had a smudge of black. Trees grew out of the roads, destroying cement and buildings alike. A flock of birds flew around the darkened yet bright sky. I crouched down, pulling out my gun. The place was incredibly radiated, and I made sure my gas mask was on securely. My hood was pulled over my head to block out the sun, and Jay crouched a bit next to me. His dark eyes surveyed the city.
"What do you think, Jay?" I asked. "Ya think we'll find anything?"
After a moment, he blinked.
I shrugged. "Maybe." Straightening, I climbed up Jay's back, urging him down the rocks and dirt. He flapped his tiny wings to keep his balance, his tail aiding him as well. Once we were on flat ground, we walked over to a dirt covered road, Feather carefully sniffing the air. I slid off his side and walked along with him, trying to see if anything caught my eye. As we continued going deeper and deeper into the city, I began to feel very uneasy. Something was off. Incredibly off. As I thought this, Jay pulled me back, growling.
"What is it?" I whispered.
He glanced from side to side, walking in front of me. I looked around as well, realizing what he meant.
"Who do you think is here?"
He twitched his nose and sniffed, which meant 'I'm not sure'. I held my breath as I got a bit closer, gun armed. In the tall grass near a hotel came a rustling noise, and we both turned our attention to it. Jay growled and lowered his head, ready to launch acid and ram his horns into anything that moved. There was more rustling, this time much closer to us. I swallowed, and then--
... A mutated frog hopped out, chasing a bug. We both relaxed, looking at each other in sweet relief and a slight hint of amusement. I began to chuckle, and he chirped as he straightened to his full height.
"Well, that was--" I started, being cut off by a massive lion-thing lunging out of the grass and chomping down on the frog. The beast had grey, vainy, leathery skin, and its ribs were obvious. It had only half its mane, the color of the mane being dark dark brown. Its face was contorted, the glowing green eyes piercing into my soul when they looked at me. One eye was smaller and higher up than the other, its teeth gnarled and sharp. Its nose resembled a pig's. Its black claws were sharp enough to split a hair with ease. Its paws were blood stained. It ripped into the frog and ate it without any mercy, swallowing the cute little guy down in record time.
