Taffy was so annoying. The entire time we ate--I was just poking the food with my fork 'cause I didn't want to end up like her--she wouldn't shut up! She talked so much, in fact, that food would sometimes fall out of her mouth.
Disgusting creep.
I didn't listen to what she said, mostly. It was mainly about her slaughtering humanoids like Jay and how great she was when she was doing that. Her words made Jay anxious, which made me angry. No one freaks my freak out. I stared dully at my plate, wondering how we'd find a flyer, and poked my food mindlessly. In the background, I heard muffled sounds, which resembled slight babbling.
Wrwrwr?
I flipped a bean over with my fork.
"Wrwrwr?"
I picked up the bean with my thumb and index finger and looked at it carefully.
"Wrwrwr?"
I put the bean on my fork and pulled the teeth of the weak metal back, aiming at the wall.
"Jonwrwr?"
I let go, watching the bean explode all over the already gross wall. Dang, these things are mushy. How long have they been in that can?
"Jonathan!"
"W-What?!" I shot my head up in alarm, looking at Taffy.
"Did you hear me?" Taffy growled. "I asked you a question."
"Uh..."
She leaned back in her chair, arms crossed. "You weren't listening at all, were you?"
"Of course I was! You asked..." I looked down at Jay, who was laying down next to my chair. He looked back at me, then snorted, slammed his tail against the ground twice, furrowed his eyebrows and bared his teeth. "... How did we fight off all those creatures? Right?"
"Oh," she seemed less angry, "so you were listening to me."
"Yeah, I was." I looked up at her again. "We just found guns and amo."
"How did you defeat the zyrites?"
"Jay's acid."
"Ah, smart."
"Uh-huh."
She scratched her chin. "How much do you know about zyrites, brother bear?"
"Uh... They come out of nowhere and attack you. They're hallow... That's about it."
She slammed her fist on the table, making our plates and forks shake and clatter, and causing me to jump at her reaction. "HA! WRONG!"
I gave her a strange, alarmed look.
"Come with me!" She slipped out of her seat and grabbed my wrist, running out of the room with me in tow. She stepped on Jay's tail, making him scream like a screeching firework. "Sorry, big bear!" She continued to drag me out of the kitchen with her.
"OW! Hey! Let go of me, you loser! You're hurting me and freaking me out!" I struggled in her grasp, trying to push her hand away from my wrist.
She kept dragging me, taking me through the lab and up three steps, through another hallway. We entered a dark room, a few chemicals in test tubes, beakers, and various flasks glowing in the darkness. She grabbed something I couldn't see, letting go of me, and did something to the object. It beeped, turning on a light system. To my shock, there was a zyrite mounted on the wall, cut in half by a blowtorch or laser or something. It was limp and lifeless, and it made me actually feel bad for it. Which is saying something.
