Chapter 57: Debriefs
First of all, no I don't want to talk about it. Second, it's none of your business. And third, quit distracting me, we're having a meeting.
"Based on the info Jade acquired, it looks like we have a new adversary," Natasha states while she swipes through Flashpoint's file for everyone to see. "And because of that, Fury wants all of us to report to the Triskellion." A collective groan is heard throughout the room as if the room is filled with eight-year-olds being told 'No desert' rather than adult, superheroes.
"I'm assuming I'm meant to stay home?" I ask, standing from the table, ready to leave.
"Actually, you'll be doing most of the talking," Natasha answers.
I stop in my tracks, "What?"
"You fought Flashpoint first hand, it only makes sense." She shrugs, looking back at that damn tablet of hers.
I try backing out of the room, seeing that I've made a fool of myself. Why wouldn't I be going? Of course, I'm going, I do have the most info on the guy -- "Oh!" I squeak as I trip, falling backward, but thankfully the fall isn't long. I look up, feeling two arms around me, and a lap below me, as I blow my hair out of my face. Scratch the thankfulness.
"Watch where you're stepping, ma'am." I roll my eyes, ignoring the butterflies in my stomach. I scramble out of Steve's lap, both of our faces thoroughly red.
"Alrighty! We're leaving now, right? Cool, I'll meet you there!" I can't get out of the briefing room fast enough. I'm sure they're talking about what just happened, but let's be real, I'm weird, I'm awkward; this behavior is nothing out of the ordinary. Right? I release a deep breath once I reach my room. God, what was I thinking?
"I'm not sure Miss, it seems this thought was kept unspoken." I jump slightly as Jarvis answers my question.
"You know, I should really see someone about that," I respond to Jarvis as I walk to my closet. I don't bother changing into my Viper gear, we're just going to a meeting. But I am only wearing a blue sweater and leggings. If people see a flying person in the sky, a safe bet would be its Viper, and well, she has an appearance to keep. So I do change into black jeans, my jet boots, a deep red blouse tank top that has a low enough cut, my black lace bralette peaks out. I throw on my lined leather jacket and walk back out to my room. "Jarvis, could you get my helmet?"
"Of course." I double check my makeup and hair while the compartment in my wall opens up. I grab my helmet, zip up my jacket and prepare for my flight to D.C.
"Have the others left yet?" I ask, making my way to the balcony.
"Not quite Miss, if you leave now, you just might beat them, Jade."
"Is that a challenge?" I respond putting my helmet on. I jump off the edge of the balcony, my boots igniting. "Ooo, Jarvis make a note that I need to invest in some gloves," I say, my fingers immediately feeling the cold as I take off.
"Quite right, Miss," I swear this AI has developed his own personality. I always forget that there's someone constantly watching all of us. Granted, he doesn't judge, but still. Wait...
"Jarvis, did you see... Steve and I last night?"
"Yes, Miss."
"Has anyone else?" I rush out a bit too frantically for my taste.
"No one has accessed the security footage of last night."
"Okay, um, can you make sure no one does?"
"If I may Jade, why?"
"Well, I'd prefer no one else know about us... kissing, until he and I have discussed it." I know it's slimy, but I honestly don't know what to even say to Steve. Last night, we kissed, and it was amazing. I know, who'd have thunk, the 90-year-old virgin is one hell of a kisser. He walked me back to my room after a minute, kissed me on the cheek and said goodnight. And that was it.
