Damian walked out of his classroom and waited for Jon to meet him. As much as he wanted to go straight to their headquarters, Jon seemed to like making conversation at school and going there together, so he stayed. Jon came walking out of the building red faced and distracted. He had been acting weird today. "Jon!" he yelled. Jon tripped and blinked a few times. "Are you okay?"
"Uh, yeah, I've just been thinking..."
Damian stared at him with a confused expression. Something was up. "Well do you wanna go to headquarters?"
"Um, I'm kinda tired. I'll meet with up with you for patrol later!" The whole time he avoided eye contact. He walked off quickly and disappeared. Damian frowned. Something told him that that fanfiction had something to do with it.
He got on his hover bike once he was out of eyesight and flew to the HQ, getting into a pod to go underwater. Once he was at his desk, he searched up Aubrey Simones. Hacking into her computer, he searched "Saving the Heart", resulting in a Google Doc. He opened it up and began to read.
* * *
"Aha!" Damian exclaimed. "I'm always right!" He had changed into grey sweatpants and a black T-shirt and was laying on the couch, a printed copy of "Saving the Heart" held over his head. He had read as much as Jon now, and had gotten up a couple times to punch his punching bag to organize his thoughts.
In honesty, Damian knew he was a homosexual. Until recently, he had thought he was asexual, but then he met Jon and felt something there. Combined with the feelings that appeared from reading this fanfiction, his thoughts had pretty much been confirmed: Damian Wayne was a gay.
He flipped to the next page and continued reading.
"Robin, you're evil," Superboy said as he buttoned his shirt.
"Shhhh, just go to sleep." Robin kissed Superboy's forehead and closed his eyes, eventually falling asleep.
Damian threw the packet across the room for the tenth time. He hated that this stupid fanfiction was able to control his emotions like this! He sat there for a second, and then scrambled to the floor to pick it up, holding it to his chest.
So this was why Jon was acting so weird. Jon didn't know that he'd read this, but regardless of that, their patrol was gonna be awkward. Robin heard the signal that a pod was entering HQ and hastily tucked away the packet underneath a cushion on the couch.
"Hey Damian," Jon said as he entered the room.
"Hey Jon."
There was an awkward silence between the two boys.
"Y-you're not wearing your suit," Jon pointed out. Damian looked down at himself, remembering that he had changed when he got back from school.
"Oh, right! I'll go change now and then we can leave," he said, storming off into a back room.
Jon sat down on the couch, covering his face with his hands. On his way here Jon had been thinking a lot about his sexuality. If he didn't like boys, then why was this fanfiction making him feel so excited and... happy? But if he did like boys, why was Damian the only one he felt attracted to?
He shifted on the couch and noticed a piece of paper sticking out of one of the cushions. Curious, he reached down and picked it up. He gasped: Damian had read the fanfiction too!
Damian walked back into the room and stopped when he saw Jon. They just stared at each other.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Jon yelled.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because you would freak out!"
"Oh, like how you are right now?"
Both boys just stared at each other with red faces.
"We'll talk after patrol," Damian said, walking past Jon. When Damian was out of sight, Jon grabbed his hair and mentally scolded himself. Why did he have to read the stupid fanfiction? He hit himself on the forehead. He was gonna get through the patrol and then they would forget the fanfiction and never talk about it ever again... Did Jon really want that though?
