After morning assembly, the lionesses went out to hunt breakfast. Diana was leading the hunt this morning and she had her eyes on a buffalo. "Alright everyone this morning is buffalo for breakfast. I'm leading the hunt this morning because Nala has some important work to do concerning Kiara."
The lionesses nodded and surrounded Diana. She gave brief directions for taking down the buffalo. "Uh mom that buffalo is huge are you sure we can take it down?"asked Vitani nervously. "Yes dear, it's a mother so it really shouldn't be too hard to kill it," replied Diana. The lionesses got onto attack formation. They crept up to the buffalo being extra careful not to step on any twigs. Then all of a sudden the lionesses roared and the buffalo was ambushed from all sides. The lionesses were biting, scratching and tugging at the buffalo trying to bring it down to their level so they could kill it. Apparently it was bad luck because suddenly the buffalo herd appeared and scattered the lionesses. The mother buffalo got up and ran to safety. "Ugh," groaned Vitani. "I knew we couldn't do it. We need the males to help us with taking down a buffalo." "We don't need the males to help with taking down buffalos," said Marisa. "Who doesn't need the males with taking down buffalos?"All heads turned right only to see Kovu. "Baby," said Kiara smiling. She bounced over to Kovu and  nuzzled him lovingly.  "Is my precious baby girl having trouble hunting something for breakfast?" "Yeah, the buffalo herd isn't behaving," said Kiara sadly. Kovu shook his head and glanced at the herd. "Maybe if we seperate a weak target from the rest of the herd then we can bring it down without much effort,"said Kovu practically. "That makes perfect sense,"said Diana nodding her head in agreement.  Kiara looked at Kovu and smiled. "Aww you are so smart," she said giving him a playful shove on his shoulder. Vitani rolled her eyes and turned away. Diana's sharp eyes rotated around the herd and soon she selected a fat but obviously weak buffalo. "Okay everyone I've selected a target. If you all want fast breakfast you are gonna have to co-operate," The huntresses nodded in understanding and moved in attack formation. Kovu lay on a rock while Kiara watched closely. Diana gave the signal and the huntresses ambushed the herd once more. The selected target was seperated from the herd and seven lionesses went to attack it. "Go Vitani!" shouted Diana urgently. Vitani wasted no time in following her pride sisters knowing that help was needed to deliver the death bite. But Diana was not the only one with a plan. The buffalo herd charged at the lionesses and tried to scatter them. But unfortunately for them, Kovu was waiting eagerly.  He leaped in front of them and growled viciously. The herd stopped and fled leaving their comrade to die. The buffalo was soon surrounded and the skilled lionesses soon had it at their feet. Vitani jumped at the throat and  sunk her razor sharp teeth into the victim's neck. Before long the buffalo was dead.                                  "Oh finally! Breakfast!" exclaimed Marisa. The lionesses crowded around the buffalo and began to drag it towards Pride Rock. Kovu stretched out and walked behind the lionesses especially Kiara. She looked behind her and saw Kovu's face. She grinned and followed him into a cave. "Oh Kovu you know fully well that I'm way to young to do this," said Kiara. Kovu rolled his eyes and sat down next to her. "Kiara my love you are an adult and so am I. So that gives us the right to mate, doesn't it?" asked Kovu. Kiara thought for a moment then she smiled. "You are absolutely right my darling. I see no reason why you and I can't mate," she said. That was exactly what Kovu wanted to hear. He smiled and got up and started to walk out of the cave.  "Huh Kovu I thought you and were going to mate. Why have you stopped?" she asked in confusion. "No Kiara we aren't going to mate. Not now anyway," said Kovu gently stroking her back. "I just wanted to verify your answer," Kiara smiled again and followed her soon to be mate out of the den to join the breakfast party at Pride Rock.
