"I'm the new addition to the circus. The name's Mayu, sir."
The boy frowned. "Don't 'sir' me. You talk awfully proper for a circus woman."
He looked her up and down. He grabbed her arm, looked at her, and looked even more baffled. "Where are your deformities?"
"Excuse me? What on earth are you talking about?"
The boy laughed. "What do you mean? This is a freak show, after all."
What? This isn't the truth. It's a circus, appropriate for the whole family! She was gonna make people happy, not scare them.
The boy shook his head and grew a worried look on his face. "I'm sorry, Missy. But if you don't have any deformities, Master will give you some."
Mayu crossed her arms. "I'm an acrobat! What do YOU do?"
"I take my face apart for everyone to see." The boy shrugged. Mayu lowered her arms and slowly looked over at the boy. The boy laughed. "I'm joking! I'm extremely flexible, so I get into boxes and stuff."
"O-oh. Well what do they do?"
"Them? Well the feller with the long legs, that's Al. He's the "ring leader." Them over there? Those two are the flower sisters, theyre also acrobats."
"What about those ladies over there? The one with the...horns."
"That's Luka and Miku. Miku sings and so does Luka. A tip, uh, don't look at Miku's legs too long. Hehe."
Mayu awkwardly laughed along. She didn't understand how he was so calm and nonchalant about everything.
"What about that boy...girl..boy?"
"That's Piko. He's one of the dancers. The other ones are Oliver and that little girl over there."
"The bandaged one is Oliver? So what's that little girl's name?"
He shrugged. "We don't know. She only responds and talks to Oliver. They have a very strong bond."
"What about those kids over there? They look so frail and skinny." Mayu grimaced at their ribs peaking through their shirts.
"Ah, Rin and Len. They were born twins, then they were stitched together by master. Then he said, 'Hey! What the heck??' and tore them apart, dyed their stitches, and stitched them in de visually. At least they have their own bodies now, but still. Don't ask why he does those things, that demented freak."
"Hey, you shouldn't call...."master" that."
The boy furrowed his eyebrows and leaned in close her. "Oh honey, that's simply an understatement." he whispered, tapping her nose. Mayu pushed him away and rubbed her face, making him burst into laughter.
She felt her face burn up as her temperature began to rise.
"Why you little-"
"Fukase?" a soft voice said from behind them. They both turned to see Oliver rubbing his eye. Mayu's heart began pounding. He looked so cute and adorable! Surely the things that, uhh,..Fukase said wasn't true.
"Fukase, who is this girl?" His voice was high pitched and soft.
"This here is...Mayo."
"Mayu." She corrected him.
He laughed to himself. "Right. Go on, Ollie. Introduce ya self."
He smiled wide and held out his arms to her. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Mayu." Mayu kinda half smiled at him and tried to shake one of his hands, but instead he swaddled her into a huge hug.
"O-oh." she pat Oliver's back and hugged him back. Fukase just laughed. When he finally let go, he gave her a big smile. "So, Mayu. Tell us, did your parents give you up or are you a criminal?"
Mayu's eyes became saucers and Fukase bellowed with laughter again.
"Oliver, what ever could you mean? I came to the circus for a good, new life away from my own. "
Oliver sighed. "So? Have you told her, Fukase?"
He shrugged. "I tried to tell her but she's still confused.
They both looked at each other and the silence grew awkward. Then the two bursted into laughter and left Mayu pouting with her arms crossed.
"Well, Mayo. I have to say: I haven't laughed like that in a while. It was nice meeting ya." Fukase lifted his top hat to say goodbye. He and Oliver pushed down the heavy door. It made a loud slam onto the dry, hard ground.
"Uggg" the other members groaned as they began to wake up. Mayu exited the train cart and stormed after the two. She was frustrated and wasn't about to let two silly boys ruin this new life for her.
She caught to Fukase and grabbed his shoulder, whipping him around.
"Look, I don't know what kind of game you're trying to play but I don't find it very funny . So please, just stop. Now, why don't we start over with the whole introduction."
Fukase's lips turned into a viscous frown as his eyebrows furrowed. He grabbed Mayu's hand off of his shoulder and squeezed it tight.
"oh snap." Oliver whispered as he stepped back to watch.
Fukase lifted his bang to reveal his completely red eye. Mayu gasped and began to feel weak in the knees.
"Missy, I don't appreciate the attitude. You can believe me or not, I'm only trying to help but honestly I really don't care. But when Master starts doin some bad stuff to ya, don't come crying to me."
Mayu began sweating, but kept a stern look on her face.
"Fukase, is this girl givin' you trouble?"
Mayu looked back to see Luka leaning against the train cart with her arms crossed and a brow raised. Mayu slipped out of Fukase's grip and walked up to Luka. "You can't tell me this is real, right?" Mayu grabbed both of Luka's horns to try and take them off. But they wouldn't budge. They felt unbelievably...real. Luka looked far from amused. She pushed Mayu gently trying to control herself. Oliver giggled.
The other performers were watching and decided that the show was over. They all got out one by one and shot side glances at Mayu. They all looked annoyed. The flower sisters rolled their eyes. They walked out with disgusted looks on their faces heading toward the tent, leaving a dumb -founded Mayu.
