"Mayu, I can't allow you to preform. " Al said, glaring down at Mayu with a stern, yet sympathetic, expression.
Mayu tugged on the blanket wrapped around her. "Al, we travel to do the show tomorrow, I've gotta make sure I know it." Mayu had adapted to her girly tone again. She was feeling better, but still wasn't in the best mood.
Al shook his head. "You're leotard is already made, so don't worry. You can practice tonight. "
Mayu furrowed her eyebrows. "No, Al. I've got to." She pushed pass him and out of the train cart. She was dizzy, cold, and hungry, but she didn't want to give up. She didn't want to be in they way anymore. She wanted to do something.
She rushed into the tent to be met with many wide eyes. "Piko, where's my leotard?" she asked sternly.
"Love, you need to re-"
"Where is it"
Piko frowned and pointed toward the dressing room. Mayu stomped there with a foul attitude, only to slowly soften as she looked at her leotard. It was black with red little bows at the hips.
Mayu sighed and put it on. When she came out, all eyes were on her. Piko looked triumphant and very pleased with his work. The Flower sisters looked proud ; excited about the new addition to their team. Fukase rolled his eyes "Can we just get to practice now!"
Mayu took her time to examine everyone else's costumes. They really looked amazing!
The dancers Piko, Oliver, and the little girl all wore white. Piko had aqua blue sequins on his leotard, Oliver wore dark blue sequins, and the little girl wore red sequins.
Luka and Miku, the singers, wore beautiful pink and blue kimonos. And Mayu admitted, even Fukase looked nice! He wore a long white coat decorated in red, white pants, and a top hat with a strange looking...animal face on it? Mayu was baffled, but not surprised.
"Alright, Mayu. Remember: breathe and lean into me. " V whispered to her. Mayu nodded and prepared herself. V swung, causing Mayu to deepen her grip on V's arms. Flower caught her, and she steadied herself on the pedestal with the spotlight on her. The dancing ended, the singing paused, and she imagined the crowds cheering for her.
She smiled wide, climbing down from the pedestal along with the sisters. "That wasn't bad, Mayu!" Al said. She was amazed by his attire! He wore a silky black top hat, an incredibly sequened red coat with calligraphy on the collar in bold "Big Al". He looked rather handsome, yet soft.
"Yep. Nothing to worry about with this one." V pat her head. Mayu's smile weakened as she noticed the bruises on V left by her slowly to begin to heal themselves, just like they did before. As soon as Mayu began to feel welcome, she becomes worried and uncomfortable again. She still had no idea who or even what these people are.
"Alright everyone! Let's take it
from the top!~"
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
That night, everyone went to sleep in the train cart together. They all found their little spots. Mayu decided to curl up with Oliver and Piko. For a while it was peaceful, until she felt little Oliver begin to cry.
"What's wrong? Oliver, are you okay?" she tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't open his eyes. Soon Piko began to cry. "Piko? Are you okay? What happened?" Next to him was Miku, and she began to sob. Then Luka. Then Al. Then the flower sisters, until the whole entire train cart was sobbing quietly.
"What's wrong? What happened? Are you okay?" she was frantic, going around to every person trying to wake them up and get them to stop. But it didn't work. Then the crying got louder. And louder.
Mayu lay on her knees, covering her ears and trying to drown the sound out. The Navy sky and gray moon made an eerie mix of a color that shone trough the cracks. The bitter wind that nipped at her skin. Then the smell of Autumn.
What a lonesome smell.
