Getting to Know Someone

After practice, Mayu and Luka were instructed to fetch fruit for everyone to eat. It was a cold, gray, autumn afternoon, and Mayu's leotard didn't do her any good.

They found lots of apple trees and Berry bushes, but Mayu noticed that Luka was struggling a little. "Ms. Luka? Are you okay?" Mayu asked. "Fine, fine. Go back to work."
Mayu obviously wasn't buying it, but she decided not to worry Luka anymore.

After getting all of the fruit they could, they went to the little lake just outside of the barren forrest to wash the fruit. Luka was holding her back and struggled to make it to the lake. "Ms. Luka, do you need some help?"

"No, dear. I-I'm fine. " she slowly descended herself to sit by the river. Her face was red and she huffed and struggled for air. Mayu put her barrel down and sat beside Luka.
"Are you okay? Ms. Luka, what happened to you?"

Luka sighed and and caught her breath.
"Well, Mayu. You see, I'm actually a Mrs." Luka reached her arm out to show Mayu her ring. It was very beautiful, and it wasn't diamond like you're every day wedding ring. It was fairly small, made with sapphire stone.

"You have a husband? Where is he?"

Luka became hesitant. She sighed and looked at Mayu while tears streamed down her face. "Mayu? Do you know the history of this circus?"
Mayu shook her head no.

Luka took a deep breath.
"This circus first started when I was 16 years old. That's when I was abducted from my mother. I guess it's obvious I'm not exactly human. Anyways, this circus began as a freak show with just me, Miku, Rin and Len. The twins were only 12. The freak show act was very successful at first, until master decide he wanted a full circus. We performed, and he began recruiting and abducting more people. One of those people was my husband. He was normal, but we fell in love. He quit the circus, and master allowed him too. He did it so he could rescue us. To rescue all of us. And that he did. He saved me and the other three. We had a private wedding in our house. It was amazing. But master found us. That's when he tore the twins apart."

Mayu tried not to cry herself. This master guy sounded absolutely awful. But she was still confused. She had many questions that only master could answer.

"So did he hurt you two? Give you back damage or something?"

Luka smiled weakly. "No, actually." she rubbed her stomach. Mayu's eyes widened. She never noticed under all of the loose silks of her kimono.

"Yes, I'm not fat, just pregnant."

"Does master know?"

Luka hesitated again. "Yes, but he hasn't said anything about it. I'm scared what he's going to do when the baby is born. I want to be out of here by then. "

"How far along are you?"

"Six months, so I suppose I have some time. I'm just glad you're somewhat understanding."

Mayu smiled. "Don't worry. I'll be here for you. I'm apart of the family now."
She never thought she would use the word family again, but she had a good feeling about these people. A very good feeling.
