The afternoon turned to night very quickly. Mayu sat in her dress right outside the tent. All of the lightning bugs buzzed around, dancing for her. She curled her knees to her chest and sighed, trying to get her thoughts in order. The smell of the Autumn in the air gave her some relief.
All her thoughts swirled, coming together to form one, monotonous, obnoxious existence. Why did this have to happen? She could never have a normal family of course, and she still was extremely grateful to even have a family to her own. But she never felt welcomed. She didn't feel like she was living. Merely existing. Saying she didn't want to exist was a bit over board, but she couldn't help but contemplate it.All of the "What ifs" ruined her mood, making all of her decisions feel pointless. Even if she didn't come to the circus, would it make that much of a difference? No, she knew it wouldnt. But at least she felt somewhat loved. That wasn't all she wanted, however. But it's the best she could get. She knew she was selfish. But she justified it with the fact that her actually family didn't want her, which was a good enough reason for her and everyone else. She still wondered. Did these people have it worse than she did?
She never even thought of something worse than being without love. But was love really all that important? Some had a damaged moral compass, so love never crossed their mind. Maybe they suffered from the loss of a conscious, and they did realize it. Mayu never thought of that. Having to accept your own insanity, but she didn't care. She only wanted to think of her own problems at the moment.Suddenly she saw someone approaching her. He was a tall figure, wearing what seemed to be a top hat and cloak. Mayu stood up, for she was afraid it was Fukase coming to do something bad, since the figure crept so eerily. "H-hello?" she called. The person came up to her. He was extremely handsome, and looked a bit old: late 30's early 40's maybe . His brown hair framed his face and came just under his ears.
He was complete in purple, his top hat, glasses, cloak, shoes, even his extravagant walking stick. "Hello, dear. I'll be with you in a moment." his lips curled into a smile as he looked her up and down before heading into the tint.
Mayu gulped and followed behind him. He was a gentleman, but he didn't seem quite right. Everyone became silent and held their heads down, almost in a surrender. Mayu gasped.Could it be? Could this be the notorious master who she was so annoyed of hearing about?
He looked over everyone, then at Mayu. "So, tell me, what's the ladies name?"
"Mayu, sir." Al said. She never thought she'd hear fear in a voice so deep. "Ah, Mayu. Acrobat, is it?"
She simply nodded, not taking her eyes off the man. "Mayu, follow me." he took her hand and took her outside.
He took her into a dark train cart and took with only a lantern. Inside the lonely train cart was a table."Miss Mayu, please sit on the table."
She did as she was told, rubbing her sweaty hands together nervously. The man put a hand on each side of her legs and leaned down to look straight up at her, as though he was about to interrogate her.
"Miss Mayu, what is your age?"
"17"
"Hm" he got up and walked around the table, looking at her. She dared not follow his gaze. She closed her eyes shut and tried to control her breathing.
Once he'd made his way to face her again, he gently pushed her down to lay on her back. She felt like she was about to go into surgery as her breathing intensified. He moved her joints in her arms, making sure they worked normally. He moved onto her legs, bending them.
"Miss Mayu, how flexible would you say you are?"
"I'm not sure."
He got onto the table himself. "Turn onto your stomach, Miss Mayu." She slowly did so, terrified of what would happen.
Would he stitch her? Break her joints?Mayu began breathing harder.
Master slowly rolled Mayu's lower body to her upper body, to see if her feet could touch her face. They did, and he slowly let go to see if she could stay in the position on her own.
He got off the table, and leaned down to see Mayu's face. She didn't seem to be struggling. She made eye contact, and felt as if she couldn't look away.
"Good! You're doing very good! " he cheered and smiled. Mayu ignored him, only focusing on regulating her breathing. Master pushed her lower body down, and helped her off of the table. "Oh dear, you'll make an excellent addition to our little show!" He laughed as he led her out of the train cart.
"I'll be off, dear!" he said, and walked into the distance. Mayu was emotionless, then full-fledge sprinted to the tent. Everyone crowded around her with concerned expressions, especially the flower sisters.
"Oh my god, are you okay?"
"What did he do to you?"
"Are you hurt?!"
Mayu couldn't really focus. She smiled and nodded, then felt her body turn to mush. She held onto herself trying to
Keep her balance, but she fell, and she didn't wake up for a while.
