I was pacing the floor, awaiting MEG's arrival. Finally MEG sweeps in, wrapped in a dressing gown, bubbling with excitement.
"Mother, did you watch?Everything is solved!Mother, can't you tell,the new routine - -It wen't so well!I was worried, just a touch,that it might've been too much,just a bit, well, rather free - -But just listen to that crowd!Why, they've never been so loud - -Screaming only for me!" Meg sang happily.
"Meg –" I tried getting her attention
"And Victor must have heard every note and every word - -Mother, tell me, did he see?" Meg sang
"Meg, stop it - -" I said
"Even he will now concede,I'm the only one he'll need - -" she sang Suddenly noticing my expression. "Mother what's wrong?" she asked me
"Meg, sweet fool, you did all that you could.Charming, bright - - And yet still not enough..." I sang to her.
"Wh-what do you mean –" She asked panicky
"How you danced!They're all entranced!Yes, all but the one whose entrancement we sought." I sang
"he wasn't there - - ?" Meg realized hurt
"Where, poor girl, do you think that he was?Yes, that's right, in with her all along!" I sang
"With Christine..!" Meg said hurt
"Dreaming of their son, their love...Too smitten to spare you one moment of thought." I sang
"But you said –" Meg started
"All that you gave Victor, it's all been a waste." I sang to my daughter
"You're wrong..." Meg said tearing up.
"All that you've done, it has all been erased..." I sang
"Don't say that!" Meg said tears streaming down her face
"Now he has them..." I sang sadly. "As for us...We have both been replaced."
I exit with an air of finality.
" Noooo!" I heard Meg howl of despair.

I was getting ready for Christine's performance. I was meeting my children and Erik up there. I finished and walked up to where my family was. Erik wrapped an arm around my waist as we walked with our children backstage. Our children were so excited to see Christine to perform and frankly so was I. Elizabeth went to go exploring.
