"Old man." Ming wrapped me in a protective embrace before speaking to his dad. His dad did not respond, instead he turned around and walked into the house. "Let's go." Ming draped his hand over my shoulder and led me into the house. My face was still embarrassingly beet red.

"You're here." I looked up at the sound of the cheerful voice and watched as a respectable looking woman floated toward us. Her graceful movements mesmerized me. I was awed by her, but I couldn't see any semblance to Ming. Pretty, graceful and petite. Why couldn't Ming look exactly like his mum? Then he would be the cute one. "Oh dear, do you have a fever?" I looked up at Ming then turned my gaze back to the woman I assumed to be his mum before I realized she was talking to me.

"No. I'm fine, thank you." My voice came out lower than I expected.

"You must be Kit. Come here." She pulled me away from Ming and engulfed me in a warm hug. "I've heard so much about you. This way..." She held my hand and led me to the dinning table which was filled with too much food. "I didn't know what you liked so I made a lot of dishes." Ming's dad was sitting quietly at the dinning table. Neither him nor Ming were saying anything.

"Ming said you started at a new hospital recently. How is it?" His mum didn't seem bothered by the tense atmosphere surrounding the other two men. She cheerfully pulled me into conversation.

"It's good. So far I haven't had any trouble and I love the field I chose to work in so that helps."

"Pediatrics, right?"

"Yes."

"What area under pediatrics are you specialized in? Idiot Ming couldn't tell me."

"Mum don't call me an idiot."

"Then what should I call you, idiot Ming. Being a burden to Kit." She turned her attention back to me. "He has been freeloading at your place this whole time, right? Make him pay for your wedding and make sure he buys you a mansion and a brand-new BMW." I liked her more and more. Now I know where Ming gets his teasing from.

"Okay." With the bantering, I was beginning to relax a little.

"Kit, why are you agreeing to what she says? Are saying I was a burden?"

"Yes. All you did was eat and sleep...among other things." I said the last part quietly. I took a bite out of the fish on my plate and savored how it melted on my tongue. "Delicious, it reminds me of my mums cooking." I gave Ming's mum a smile. She clasped her hands together excitedly.

"That's great. I'm glad you like it. Your mum and I probably use the same secret ingredient, a mother's touch."

I could tell that by the end of the night I'll be bloated from eating too much because Ming and his mum kept piling my plate with food.

"Are you two trying to kill him by overfeeding him and you too, stop trying to be polite and tell them you can't eat anymore." I almost choked on the shrimp in my mouth when Ming's dad not only spoke but actually spoke to me. His voice was deep and gravelly, with a commanding tone to it. "You never said. What area under pediatrics are you specialized in?" I couldn't hide my surprise when he continued to speak to me. My eyes were wide, and I stammered a little as I answered.

"...umm...g-general pediatrics and adolescent medicine."

"Honey, you're scaring the boy. Can't you soften your voice a little more?" Ming's dad sighed at his wife's words and unknitted his brows, trying to look a little more relaxed.

The rest of the meal time went well. Even though his dad hardly spoke, Ming and his mum kept me talking until dinner was over. Ming's mum laughed and led me to the sitting room when I offered to help her clear the table.

"The maid will take care of it." Was her answer. When we were all seated, I got anxious again and Ming didn't make it any better when he addressed his dad aggressively.

"Old man, I'm warning you now. If you say anything to hurt him, we're out of here." I pinched his thigh. "Ouch Kit, that hurts."

"How can you speak to your dad like that? Be a little more respectful." I whispered to him.

"I told you already, I won't stand for it if he tries to hurt you." Ming spoke loudly and clearly so his parents would hear. I pinched him again.

"He's still your dad. You should be respectful." I whispered harshly at him. "I'm sorry about the way he's acting." I said loudly and bowed apologetically at his parents.

"Why are you apologizing?" Ming and his dad spoke in unison. Both clearly asking for different reasons.

"Ming is the one being disrespectful. You shouldn't be the one apologizing. You really are an idiot, Ming..."

"Mum..."

"How do you put up with him?" Ming's mum was clearly ignoring her son.

"Well...I love him enough that I try to understand everything he does."

"What about your family? Are they okay with you being with a man?" I thought Ming's dad would be the one asking the questions but turns out it was his mum.

"Yes, my family is okay with us being together."

"That's great. When can we meet them?"

"Umm..." I gave her a wide-eyed look and glanced at her husband before returning my gaze to hers.

"Don't worry about him. He won't get in the way." She spoke of her husband.

"Does this mean you two are okay with your son and I being together?"

"Didn't I tell you that when I called?"

"No."

"I must have forgotten."

"I want to hear dad say it." Ming gave his dad a piercing gaze.

"You call me dad only when it suits you. Do whatever you want. Just make sure you're at work on Monday. You've used up all your vacation days and your pay will be docked if you don't show up starting Monday."

"And you're not going to drag me around to your executive parties and try to set me up with someones daughter, right?"

"You still need to come to those functions. They're a good way for networking. You can bring Kittinan along if that will make you happy." I kept turning my neck, first to Ming then his dad then back as they spoke.

"Old man..." I pinched Ming. He frowned at me, but I gave him an unpleasant look in return. "I mean...dad why did you change your mind?" I rubbed the spot on his thigh I'd just pinched as a reward. I lifted my eyes and caught Ming's mum watching us with a smile. She winked at me before walking out of the living room.

"Because it turns out two men can still have biological children. You two plan to have children, right?"

"Yes." Ming responded before I could. I know we broached the topic once but I don't remember saying yes when he asked if I want to have kids someday.

"Good. Wayo's father was telling me that they are going to start looking into getting a surrogate mother so his two sons can have their first child. You two should let me know when you decide to start having babies. I don't want you picking a random woman off the streets to carry my heir." I couldn't believe how this meeting had turned out. I came here ready to argue. Ming came ready to fight but none-of that was going to happen, it appeared. I couldn't hide my joy.

I gave a wide smile when Ming's mum placed a drink in my hand. She caught me looking skeptically at the glass when I realized it was alcohol.

"You two are staying the night. I've prepared the guest room for you." She wasn't asking, she was telling me.

"If we're staying the night Kit is sleeping in my room."

"As long as you two don't do anything uncalled for." His dad responded with his brows knitted. Why are our parents so worried that Ming and I would do something inappropriate in their houses? Do we look like horny teenagers?

"Don't worry, even if I wanted to Kit won't let me." Stupid stupid Ming. Why did he have to respond like that? He could have just said we won't. I sank deeper into the couch I was sitting on, wishing I could hide. I don't want his parents thinking about our sex life.
