"Stop stop, you're walking too fast."
"First we're walking too slow, now we're walking too fast. Can't we just walk normally?" Ming huffed in response to Nika's critique. I don't think this is necessary but Nika insisted we need to rehearse.
It was a simple routine. From behind the seated guests, I would walk in from the right and Ming from the left, then we'd meet in the middle and walk hand in hand to the front. Then we each say our vows and, the part I'm least excited about, we'd kiss. Kissing in front of our parents would be so embarrassing but I'll have to do it. Everyone who's coming knows about us, so no need to be self-conscious. Besides, I told Ming I would work on being more open about him and I. Which is why I invited him to the hospital and introduced him to some of my colleagues as my husband to be. Some of the women I work with didn't bother hiding their envy and they wouldn't stop talking about how lucky I was to have scored a rich handsome man. Some of them wanted me to introduce them to his friends but I brushed them off by casually saying Ming is the last of his friends to get married.
After trying a few more times, Ming and I finally succeeded in walking the way Nika thought was right.
The chairs were in place. The arch, which was designed with two long palm fronds bent and tied together at the top, and beautifully decorated with brightly colored orchids was delivered as we rehearsed. We did a final check to make sure we'd forgotten nothing before leaving for the temple to pray that our union be filled with happiness and that we will be able to overcome any trials which may come our way.
The visit to the temple was fairly quiet. Sitting through chants wasn't as bad as I thought it would be although we had to sit quietly. An hour had passed by the time we left the temple. We made a sizeable donation before leaving.
We'd already moved most of our stuff into our new home. Ming had to pay a penalty fee for cancelling his lease before it ended. I only had one more bag I needed to move, and I will be taking that with me when I leave in the morning.
The night before the wedding was the last night I slept in my tiny room. Ming tried to keep me from going to work by seducing me, but I didn't let him. I left him mopping around in his apartment. I don't know what he's so worried about, but I am certain nothing bad will happen even though I've hardly slept in the last few days.
I was able to take a nap before I had to get to work. I was in high spirits the entire night, going about my routine with a spring in my step and a wide smile on my face. It didn't matter that the night was quiet and boring, one reason why I don't like the night shift, I still went about my night like it was a very busy night, interacting with the other staff and being more friendly than usual.
I was on schedule. I left the hospital right on time and for the last time, made my way across the hospital grounds to my tiny room. I took a nice slow shower, making sure I looked and smelled good, before donning my tailored suit and stepping out in my shiny brand new black dress shoes.

The weather was supposed to be just cloudy and a little windy but now it was looking like it would start pouring soon. The wind was picking up, the clouds were darker than they should be, and I could vaguely smell the rain. Most of the guests had already arrived and were seated, ready to witness my union with Kit. I glanced at my wrist watch for the thousandth time. Kit needs to get here before it starts pouring.
"Ai'Ming, where is he?" I turned to see P'Beam and P'Pha, straining their necks, trying to find my Kitkat.
"He is on his way. I hope you brought fat envelopes, we wont accept peanuts from you two." I said to them while trying to hide my worry.
"How come Kit's not here?" P'Beam wouldn't let it go.
"He had to work. P'Pha, where is Yo? You two came together, right?"
"Him and dad are talking to your parents. Why didn't Kit take the day off?"
"He doesn't have enough vacation days to cover all the days we're taking off." I glanced at my wrist watch again, then back at the sky. The clouds were rolling in fast and now it was thundering. Even though we checked the weather before setting the date, how could it turn out like this? We did make preparations for the guests in case it rained but I'm worried that if Kit doesn't get here before the rain starts, he might not make it on time. I gave up on wondering how far away he is and called him when it started drizzling.
"Where are you?"
"I'm on the way. I thought it wasn't supposed to rain today. It's pouring over here."
"Will you make it on time?"
"Maybe. I'm driving slowly because of the rain. It's dangerous to drive and talk, I'll see you when I get there." He hung up after saying that and after waiting another ten minutes or so, I tried calling him again, but I couldn't get through to his phone.

A/N: After reading the comments from the previous chapter, I thought of having Kit getting into an accident, then kidnapped. The accident, which was deliberately caused by the kidnappers was more serious than they planned and Kit got a concussion causing him to get amnesia. But after spending a day -and more- thinking about it, I decided to keep it simple like I originally planned. Maybe I'll write that and post it as a short story.
I love reading your comments, they always inspire new ideas.😍
