~Three Days Before Leaving To Meet Phil~

Here I was - three days before I was supposed to leave to meet Phil - pacing around my kitchen listening to Sydney's voice echo throughout flat. Somehow, I had found a way to avoid telling my parents that I was hoping on a train and leaving Reading to go see someone in Rawtenstall -  whom might I add I met online who has changed my life - and staying in his flat for five weeks. "Dan, sweetheart you need to relax. It'll be fine, I promise you that your father will not get in your way - now your mother - I can't make any promises." Sydney's voice was calming but it didn't help me in the fact that at the moment my divorced hate filled parents were arriving at my door within minutes. "All you need to remember sweetheart, is that this is important to you. It doesn't have to be important to them and it might not be, but you need to remind them that this is something you need to do for yourself. It's just like you getting your own flat, except bigger in a certain way." Before I could give my response a knock on my door stopped my heart, which she must've heard because she then replied, "Break a leg honey, it'll all work itself out I promise." And with that the conversation was finished.

As I made my way towards the door the sound of arguing could be heard through the door, sighing as I opened the door to only be shoved out of the way. "This had better be important Daniel or I swear to god I'll beat your ass for making me sit here with this pile of trash!" Kate's voice bombed throughout my flat, honestly I'm surprised my neighbours didn't hear it.

"Oh look who's talking about trash you whore!" My father's harsh responses crushed me, throwing me back to the first time my father talked about divorce.

~Flashback~

She was going out practically every night he worked late, she was supposed to be watching us, never happened. The position she put Adrian and I in for six years caused Adrian (who as four) to never leave my side and it forced me (I was eight) to grow up faster than most kids. The threats of what would happen to us if we told our dad continued to grow as we got older, but it affected both of us and we never did tell him, we let him find out on his own.  And he did when I was fourteen. I remember that night vividly, he was supposed to be working late and she was out clubbing with a different man, leaving me and Adrian alone at home playing with Collin (our family dog who now lives with my grandmother). It was about one in the morning when she stumbled through the front door with a very intoxicated man on her arm, quickly I rushed Adrian and Collin into Adrian's room, "Dan?  What's going on? Is mum home? What's-"

"Shh... I don't know who she has with her, stay in here and stay quiet. It'll be okay alright? I'll be back, I promise." Adrian nodded and with that I turned, shut his bedroom door behind me and locking it, insuring he would stay where he was safe. Slowly, I made my way to the stairwell where I saw my 'mother' having sex with another man that wasn't my father, I knew what I had to do. Cautiously and making sure I was out of her view I grabbed my phone and called him, keeping my voice low and quiet as he picked up the phone, "Dad?"

"Daniel? What is it?"

"Y-You need to c-come home... Like right now..."

"What is it? Daniel?"

"Just please tell me you're on your way... Please dad..."

"I'm just coming down the street I'll be there in a few minutes." I hated my self for calling him and bringing him into this mess, I was mad because my mother new she was cheating even when she was sober, she knew and she didn't own up to it and tell him. Just as he promised, within a few minutes my father made his way through the front door, "Kate? Dan? Adrian? Kate are you here-WHAT THE FUCK!" His voice shock the whole house, "KATE!? WHO THE FUCK!? WHAT THE FUCK!?" My mother had no look of remorse on her face, no regret, she only smiled and uttered a small apology that was worth jack-shit to my father and I. "THIS IS WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE LEFT ALONE!? FUCKSAKE KATE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE LOOKING AFTER OUR BOYS! NOT FUCKING EVERY MAN YOU MEET!"

"DAVID HOLY SHIT I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU'RE MAKING THIS SUCH A BIG DEAL HONESTLY IT'S JUST THIS ONCE I'M SORRY!"

Her pathetic lies shook my core and forced my hand - which looking back now could be why she hates me so much -  instantly I ran downstairs, tears streaming down my face as I confronted her once and for all. "LIAR!" Their shocked faces turned to meet mine, "YOU CAN'T PULL THIS SHIT ANYMORE! YOU'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR SIX YEARS KATE!"

"DANIEL THAT IS NO WAY TO TALK TO YOUR MOTH-"

"You. Are. No. Mother. To. Me." Looking around the room, grabbing our family photo and smashing it on the ground, shattering the glass, their shocked faces made me feel better somehow, "A mother, would not cheat o-on a man she promised t-to cherish... A mother would never a-abandon her children in order t-to go clubbing and then sleep w-with every o-other man that looks her way... You stopped being my mother when you lied to dad a-about what was really going on..."

The next thing I knew we were in a brutal and bitter divorce battle, hoping our mother wouldn't win full custody with all the hell she had put us through. Six whole life draining months passed and eventually, a verdict was reached, however, it wasn't the one Adrian nor I had hoped for, joint custody. Four days of the week were spent with our dad and the other three were spent with Kate...

~End Flashback~

"Can you guys just shut up for two seconds!?" Their faces fell, a soft sour look pouring over to replace all upcoming emotions. "I just... This is important, and I-I would like to just get it over with so I can face the outcome." My father turned to Kate and sighed, they both nodded calmingly before I lead them towards the living-room and offered them something to drink before the fallout.
