(I should probably save these oneshots I'm making for other days instead of just publishing them all in one day, but I hate seeing finished pieces not published.)
There he was, in the clearing.
His wings were a dazzling white, reminding Gene of freshly fallen snow. His tail was also that same dazzling white color. His entire figure radiated a graceful peacefulness.
Gene looked at his own wings and tail. They were the exact opposite of the dazzling white scales on the other dragon. His scales were as black as the night sky, and he had a fake piece of his tail. He looked back at the dragon, seeing that he was now looking at him.
He was a LightFury.
Gene decided it would be best to introduce himself. He didn't like to just stare at those he was meeting. Stepping out of the cave he had been in, he started to walk over to the LightFury.
Only to end up tripping and rolking down the hill.
The LightFury stepped out of the way as Gene rolled by, leaving the NighrFury to crash into a rock. He groaned, sitting up slowly as he shook out his wings. He saw the LightFury sniff in his direction, getting a bit closer.
"Hello!" Gene greeted, standing up. "I'm Gene, a NightFury."
"Z-Zane..." The LightFury mumbled, standing on his toes to make himself taller.
"I've never met a LightFury before." He said, trying to start a conversation. "Have you ever met a NightFury?"
"No..." He sighed, folding his wings in as he stood flatly.
"Why are you so sad?" He asked, brushing one of his wings against him.
"I'm all alone..." He answered, looking up at the sky. "I'm one of the last of the LightFury Clan... everyone else.... they're gone.."
"Oh.. I'm sorry..." He trailed off, feeling very awkward. "How did you survive?"
"I managed to use my power in time..." He explained, walking towards a bed of flowers.
"What's your power? Invisibility?" He guessed, following him.
"No." He shook his head, brushing his tail against the flowers. "I breathe out a plume of fire, go into it, then disappear."
"I have electric powers." He announced proudly, batting his wings.
"At least your power doesn't make you a coward." He sighed, sitting down.
"Zane... are you the only Dragon on this island?" He asked, sitting down next to him.
"No. There are other Dragons, but I live alone up here." He answered, looking at him. "Are you the last NightFury?"
"I think so..." He started, looking down. "My mother died when I was very young, and my brother... I don't know what happened to him."
"So we've both lost those who mean the world to us." He whispered, his eye more sympathetic.
"I guess..." He shrugged, sighing.
"Well, you're always welcome here, Gene." He said, standing up. "If you don't have anywhere else to go."
"Where are you going?" He asked, backing away from his wings.
"Just to fly around the island. There's not much else I have to do." He said, giving him a small smile. "Do you wanna come?"
"Sure." He nodded, standing up.
Zane gave him another quick flash of a smile, before jumping off of the ledge. Gene dove down after him, opening his wings to fly. The two of them soared alongside each other, occasionally flapping their wings to keep in the air.
"Did someone do that to your tail?" Zane asked, looking at him.
"Yeah, a viking kid." Gene answered with a nod, looking back at the piece. "Shot me down from the sky, cut off that piece of my tail with the net."
"Is he still after you?" He asked.
"We're okay with each other now." He explained, beating his wings. "He changed the entire viking civilization. Now they all love Dragons. It's like a utopia for us."
"I could never trust a human again." He sighed quietly, feeling along his neck. "Not after the last ones... the ones that took my family and species from me.."
"Oh, Zane...." He sighed, grabbing the LightFury's hand.
His hand was cold and smooth, and it looked small compared to Gene's. Zane looked at Gene, his sky blue eye meeting Gene's deep teal ones. The two stared at each other in silence for what seemed like hours, but was really just a few minutes.
"I really like you, Zane." Gene admitted, blushing a bit.
".... We've only known each other for thirty minutes." Zane blinked, tilting his head.
"We're dragons. We work fast." He grinned, laughing.
"I'm pretty sure that's just you." He said, shaking his head.
"Oh, come on!" He cried, crossing his arms. "You gotta admit that I'm hot!"
"Alright, I'll give you that." He laughed, doing a loop in the air. "You're pretty hot."
"And you're adorable." He grinned, hovering in the air. "But seriously, Zane... I really do like you."
"You really do work fast." He laughed. "Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up liking you too."
"Well gee, I'd sure hope so." He smiled, circling him. "Gene the NightFury and Zane the LightFury, the last of their kinds, struggling through all their tears together!"
"Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate." He admited, nodding.
