RECAP
He taps his fingers together, glancing back at the door and to the frame conspicuously. Before he knows it, he has the turned over frame in his hand. Within the frame laid a serene woman with a smile along her face. Her jade green eyes were emphasized by the makeup around her eyelids, and her dark curly hair sat at her olive toned shoulders.
His breath caught in his throat as those green flecks in Lilian's eyes were the same beneath the glass cover.
"Wow." He murmurs with a squint of his eyes. They were almost uncanny in similarity.
"What are you doing?" A voice asks at the door.
. . .
Lilian stands in the doorway with her ebony hair now laid in wavy frizzy curls framing her face, her now puzzled, betrayed, and hurt face. Her hand rises from her side to point a trembling finger to the picture in question, walking over with fury running off her arms as she snatches it from his grip. Her fingers clasp around its edges, looking it over as if his touched had damaged it in any way possible.
"I'm sorry."
Her shoulders fall at the statement, and remorse hits Aiden in all directions, feeding him the guilt that made him want to run out the door and to stop involving himself in her life.
Nothing but the angry puffs of Lilian and the sound of the air conditioner blowing through the vent were heard throughout the teen girl's bedroom. Aiden kept his mouth shut, staring at Lilian as she walks backward to her bed. She tenderly sits down, as if she didn't want to dare let the frame fall to the floor. He watches her carefully, sitting down next to her, not even minding the fact there was no space left between their thighs.
She lets a sigh roll out of her lips before she lays the frame onto her lap, hands splayed out against the glass. Her index trails around the woman's jawline to her chin, biting her lip in frustration. Silence now hung in the air, till her shoulders begins to shake, and Aiden's alertness bursts through the rooftop. His hand flies to her arm, but she pulls her arm away closer to herself.
Her eyes trail up to his emanating curiousity, remorse, and concern. She removes a hand from the frame and reaches towards his glasses, looking to him for permission. A wobbly smile grants her, and she slides the glasses off of his face, suspending his vulnerability to her. He tries to keep any awkward movement at bay as she stays silent, just looking him over. Whatever it was got her satisfied, and she moves the picture frame from her lap to his.
"My... mom. S-she's hurt." She utters as grief fills her words with today's earlier memories storming themselves through her head.
"Okay, well. It seems that your mother will be needing more treatment—"
"She, um- got into a car crash, where someone hit her as she was walking across the street last year."
"She experienced cardiac arrest today and the doctors are trying—"
She flinches as she feels Aiden's hand intertwine with hers. He squeezes it lightly to comfort, and looks back to the frame, simply studying the woman in the mirror. She shakily inhales, laying her head on his shoulder.
