"You have reached your destination. Your destination will be on your right." Was all I heard as I drove through an adorable little neighborhood.
"You have reached your destination. You have reached your destination—"
I tapped at my insistent phone, and turned off the ignition. There was another car pulled in the driveway with the tag New York stamped on it, and lights plastered everywhere that were illuminating the whole house.
I chewed over my bottom lip as Aiden's snores continued to fill my car.
Maybe his parents can help him out the car?
I hopped out of my seat and tried to close the door as quietly as possible. I looked back through the window to see if he budged, and just as I expected, out like a light. As I walked up to his front door, my eyes catch on the immense floral vases that line up the pathway. I shake my head with a small laugh.
This family is obsessed with plants.
My hand cradles the doorknob, before I reach up to knock.
"Yes?"
My jaw almost drops at the beautiful woman staring at me blankly. Her eyes were the exact honey brown eyes Aiden had, glowing and always seemed to never lose its shade.
I point back at my car with my thumb, shooting her a nervous smile. "I'm here to drop off your son."
The woman narrows her eyes at me, crossing her arms. "Why is my son in your car?"
"He was too drowsy to drive himself home." I respond, and I start to cringe inside at how her face starts to morph into realization and something akin to horror.
I start, "It's not what you think—"
"He's in your car, right?" She interrupts with a hand raised. I wince as she walks over, probably horrified and hoping this would all be an elaborate joke.
I walk towards the passenger side, gesturing that he was just sleeping in the seat. She looks away, then looking between us as if we were anomalies. I faintly sigh to myself, opening the car door. I bite my lip as I try to prod him awake, resisting the urge to promptly smack this kid in the head for being so tired.
Aiden groans and turns his entire body in the seat just to look at me through slanted eyelids to mutter one thing, "Let me sleep... it's been rough. I did a lot."
Behind me, I hear his mother's breath hitch at the comment. Aiden, however, pays it no mind, trying to get back to whatever dreamland he was thinking about. I smack at his shoulder, now aggravated because this woman wants me dead because of a misunderstanding.
"Aiden, Aiden wake up. Your mom's here." I whisper with another smack on his shoulder.
He raises his head with a frown, and I step back so he could have a clear view of his mother's disturbed face. He slid out of the seat with such speed, I almost thought he was a blur. If I dared, I would've laughed at how she looked as if she couldn't breathe, and Aiden's special alertness at recognizing his surroundings.
