Keeping Mr. Floofer secured, she made her way up to the 15th floor and easily found the apartment.

She took a deep breath.

It's only a night.

Once I have my paycheck, I can get the hotel room.'

She paused.

If she didn't pay Mrs. Jadis when she first got home, she could have used her money from today's class.

She groaned audibly.

She could find another friend, right?

Maybe they will let her stay a night so she didn't have to stay with a stranger.

She pondered her choices with her hand raised, but not knocking. She probably looked like a looney.

"Hello." His deep voice echoed in the empty hall.

She jumped.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. Its just you have been standing there for a few minutes and I need to get back into the apartment." Derek's voice didn't hide his amusement. He was holding a willow laundry basket with folded clothes.

"That skank," Jessie uttered then immediately covered her mouth. "I'm sorry. Not you."

"Well, I'm glad. Your friend said you were in a pickle."

She nodded. "My apartment is currently being doused by Vancouver's finest."

"Oh geez. At least you got out safely. Is this Mr. Floofer?" He asked and moved to get a better look in the carrier.

Mr. Floofer was shaking wildly. She needed to get him calmed down.

"You guys are welcome to stay. We have a guest room that's empty." He walked past explaining and opened the apartment door. "Come in. I'll give you a tour."

She followed silently.

His apartment was a mirror of Greg's.

She had to squash the rising uncomfortable feeling. He was only a floor above where she was right now. The modern open floor plan revealed the large oversized living space that had access to a balcony. She smiled noticing the offending couch from the night before. It went well as the theme in the living room was contemporary and sleek filled with blacks and whites. To one side, a chef's kitchen. The cabinets were all white and stunning granite countertops. To the other side a hallway to the bedrooms. He took her down the hall and opened each room.

"This is Jake's room. He is barely here except for dinner. He spends most of his time at the college." He continued to the next room on the other side of the hall. It was a large bathroom with a shower, toilet, and double sinks made of marble. The next door was the linen closet. Followed by Derek's room. She peered in. It was masculine but neatly kept. At the far end, an ensuite. It had soft blues on the wall giving it a calming feeling.

"And this is the guest room." He swung the door wide. It was on the same side as the bathroom and linen closet just opposite of Derek's room at the end of the hall. It was the smallest room with a single bed and dresser. The closet door was open and revealed a small walk in, that was probably the size of her old bathroom.

"Is he at the college now?" She asked of Jake.  She needed to explain about the fire and the job.

He nodded and looked at his watch. "But he said he is leaving in a few. He can stop by the pet store to pick up some supplies for Mr.Floofer."

She didn't think about that, but she did need a temp set up. She breathed out. Her mind raced and she tried to collect all the thoughts of what she needed.

"Hey, no need to worry. How about you write down a list of things you need okay? What does he eat? I have tons of fresh veggies, we can at least get him settled." He told her.

"He needs timothy hay. He has some in his carrier, but not enough to last the night. If you have some kale, romaine, or dark leafy greens, he would probably become your best friend." She admitted.

He smirked. "Well, I have all three. I'll make him a Bunny Salad and bring it back here, ok?" He paused. "There is a pen and notepad in the dresser by the bed if you wanted to make that list." He left her.

Taking a deep breath, she didn't know if she needed to laugh or cry. Instead, she groaned and sat on the bed. Taking out the notepad, she jotted down the items she knew Mr. Floofer needed right away that would be easy to move to the hotel tomorrow.

When Darek came back, he was carrying two bowls- a salad and water.

"Thank you so much. For everything. I promise once I get everything settled with Jake tomorrow, I can get a hotel. I had already paid my rent when I got home before everything went up in flames so I am low on funds right now."

"Oh, no prob. You can stay as long as you want. We originally were looking for a 3rd roommate, but he weaseled out at the last minute and we already had the lease."

"I appreciate the offer, but this is a tad out of my budget." She admitted while unzipping the carrier. Mr. Floofer was shaking. She tried head pets to calm him down, but that doesn't really work on rabbits. Instead, she placed the carrier by the bowls on the floor facing the wall to give him some privacy. He should feel calmer now that they weren't moving around.

"Sure thing. Well, I'll get out of your hair. Dinner is in like an hour or so... Oh, did you have that list?" He asked.

She handed him the basics. "Thanks again."  She should be freaking out right now, but somehow everything came together.
