Derek held onto Jessie's hand the entire time they were in the Uber. Somehow, she knew if she tried to let go, he would hold tighter so she let him. When they got to the apartment complex, she guided him into the elevator.

She didn't talk about how her heart stopped when the door opened because for a half of a second she expected Greg's face to be staring back.

It was empty and she relaxed when she felt him squeeze her hand. Derek found an envelope taped to the front door with his name on it.  He ripped it off the door and opened the door for Jessie. He tore open the white letter sized envelope as they sat down on the couch. He didn't read the whole thing.  Less than a half a second later, his eyebrows narrowed.  He crumpled it.

She looked at him confused as he tossed it towards the trashcan. He missed and it bounced by the refrigerator, but he made no attempt to got get it.

Instead, He pulled her into his arms. She tensed.

"What was that?" She asked. Honestly, she didn't give a shit about whatever that was.  This was her avoiding intimacy.  He is probably going to want to kiss... more? Shit.  Was she okay with that?  Fuck.  Is this happening?  No. Just kissing.  He hasn't even kissed her on the lips. She tried not to stop breathing thinking about his kisses on her neck..on her cheek...

"Asshattery." He said interrupting her thoughts.  "Don't worry about it okay?  We will get through all that together, ok?"

"What if I told you that isn't what is worrying me right now?" She admitted.

"What is then?"

"Are. You-" She stopped unsure how to frame this. "Have you been-" She frowned and twisted to sit perpendicular on his lap. He was sitting regularly while she was sitting with her legs towards the length of the couch.

He smiled at her. Mischief sparkled in his eyes, but also a hint of nervousness.

"Did you want to have the sex talk?" He asked while searching her eyes.

She nodded.

"I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours?" He kissed her shoulder through her t-shirt.

"Ok." She paused. Her nerves were on fire. Surely if anything, this would make him want to vomit. Perhaps this was best. "Band-aid time." She steadied herself.

"Just rip it off, huh? That bad?" He laughed. "Not me. I'm a virgin. But I have kissed and fondled. I'm not ashamed either. I never found anyone that lit my fire-" He didn't need to finish the sentence, but she could tell there was more leaving the "until you..." to be spoken as he slid her t-shirt to the side just a bit to place a kiss on her skin. He loved the crook of her neck.

"Umm." Words. He was waiting for her to say something, but they weren't forming. Kiss. Her skin was turning to fire. Kiss.

"Your." Kiss. "Turn." Kiss. His deep voice went impossibly low to a husky grumble thick with rasp and breath.

"Uhh." What. His lips caressed her collarbone. "Ah."

Fuck. Why couldn't she speak?

He allowed his warm tongue to taste her skin grinning at her gasp.

"Stop!" She said suddenly.

His eyes went wide; he stiffened.

"No. I mean. I. can't. Think. Much less respond with you doing that." She finally got out. "This is important."

He relaxed, his grin back. "Proceed."

In an act of defiance, he found her hand and entwined their fingers as if now that he was allowed to touch her, he couldn't stop. He lifted her slender fingers to his lips.

"I'm serious. If you can't behave, we will sit on opposite sides of the couch." She said in a patronizing tone.

"My patience isn't virtuous." He grumbled.

"Big words for a welder." She stated.

"I'll have you know, I could have gone to college on scholarship if I wanted to but chose my trade instead."

Her eyebrow raised, but from how expressive he was earlier, this didn't really surprise her. It was her assumptions that got in the way.

Like always.
