Hey everyone! I really hope you enjoy this book! I'm sorry if I don't update much but please comment what you think. I accept advice. Hope you enjoy!

I've been living alone for 9 years now. Some may think it's lonely to live alone, but not for me. Sometimes I feel left out from the world, but it's better that way. I don't make friends, I don't get sad when they leave. Because they will leave, they always do. One day you'll think you'll be friends forever, then when you finally get up the nerve to tell them you're biggest secret, they are calling you a monster and leaving you forever.

I'm not evil, if you'd get to know me you'd find I'm the opposite. But that's the thing, you won't get to know me, because I live secluded from the world, in a place no one can find me unless I want to be found. I wander along dimly lit corridors underground, and very rarely you might see me in a grocery store, but mostly at night. For it is during the day that I was told I am most frightening, because that's when they can see me clearly.

If my father were asked to describe me, the first thing he would have said is that I have red eyes. He wouldn't describe my attitude, or what I'm good at, just my eyes.

Now, even though I live alone, I wear a mask over my eyes. I know no one is going to see me, but it makes me feel better when my eyes are hidden behind a mask. The fabric I use allows me to see clearly without having to take it off.

At first, I tried using sunglasses, but when I looked in the mirror I saw the red glow of my eyes. Then I tried using coloured contacts but they didn't seem to work either because I could still see my original eye colour.

I leave my house through an underground tunnel and reach the abandoned parking lot where my car is. The tunnels are kind of like hallways in a house, but there were a lot of them. I took off my mask and got into the vehicle and drove off towards town. It was dark outside and there weren't many vehicles on the road. I was about to put on some music when I noticed a girl.

She was standing on the side of the road with her thumb out, signalling she needed a ride. She was wearing a white shirt with a jean jacket and a pair of black jeans. Her hair was red and wavy. I wouldn't of stopped but it was late and I noticed no one else was stopping to pick her up, so I stopped the vehicle and let her in.

"Umm, where do you need to go?" I asked, trying not to look at her for fear she'd see my eyes.

I realized if she looked at me through the mirror she could catch a glimpse of my eyes but there wasn't much I could do.

"To the nearest grocery store please." The girl replied.

Great, I was heading there too.

As we drove there was just silence. I had decided not to put on music, I wasn't sure this girl liked the same music I did. After a while we finally got to the store and the girl got out first, thanked me and walked in. After locking the vehicle I put back on my mask and entered as well.

The first thing on my list was cranberry juice, I had just ran out that morning. After a few minutes I had one more thing on my list.

Chocolate.

I headed to the candy section and found a chocolate bar then I headed to pay for my groceries. After paying I was about to walk out of the store when I saw the red haired girl starring at me. I gave her an annoyed look and turned away. Didn't she know it was rude to stare? Just then I noticed the owner of the store talking to the girl and I heard her call him dad. This surprised me because I new the owner of the store. I started walking towards the exit when the girl walked up to me.

"Hey, thanks for the ride, and I'm sorry for staring at you earlier, I was just wondering why you were covering you eyes." The girl said.

"You already said thank you earlier and it doesn't matter, everyone stares."

I was about to continue walking when she grabbed my arm. It wasn't in a rude way, she held my arm as if to comfort me.

"My name is Elana." She said.

"I didn't ask your name." I said softly.

I started walking towards the door again but when I reached to open the door I turned back to her. I don't know why I turned back, I don't know why I told her my name but I did. Then, I left the store and got back in my vehicle. I took off my mask and drove off. Why had I told her my name? She's a total stranger and she will continue to be a total stranger.

I arrived home and put the groceries on the table then made some supper. When I finished eating I did the dishes and went to my room. I sat on my bed for a bit, looking up at the window and the little photos under it on the wall above my bed and soon enough I fell asleep.

So here is the first chapter. I really hope you like it and tell me what you think.
