Elana's point of view
Maya and I had decided to go on a walk. My house wasn't even in the town closest to here but I had heard this forest was the best for a scenic walk and Maya liked to draw so I had brought her here. Maya and I have been best friends for a few years now, we had met in 11th grade.
I could see the huge smile on my best friends face as she observed the trees around us. There was moss on the rocks and a few colourful mushrooms. The trees were so tall they seemed to go on forever.
"So, how is your family grocery store going?" Maya asked.
"Good. Yesterday there was this guy that came to the store and he had this mask over his eyes, do you know why that would be?"
"Oh, I've seen him before, around town. He has black hair right?"
"Yeah, and he looks around our age but it's hard to tell because he covers his eyes."
I looked ahead of me on the path and listened to the birds. Just then I heard a cry. It was loud and sounded full of pain. I turned to Maya.
"Did you hear that?"
"Yeah, it sounded like someone got hurt or something."
"Where did the sound come from?"
"Not sure, maybe that way?" Maya pointed to the right.
I started walking off the path making sure I remembered where I was so I would not get lost on the way back. I turned to my best friend.
"Hurry up!"
She rushed to catch up to me and we ran through the trees. As we ran we looked around to make sure we didn't end up running past the place where we guessed the cry had came from. After about 5 minutes we stopped running and we started looking around.
This area of the forest was more open and I could see the sun. Colourful flowers grew in little bunches and the sound of the birds was louder. I took a few steps then looked around, then took another few steps. I was about to call Maya and tell her nothing was here, when I saw a figure laying face down on the ground. I walked over to the figure then called Maya over.
I rolled The figure onto their back with Maya's help. It was a boy about my age with curly black hair and freckles and a mask over his eyes. I gasped in shock. The boy who had given me a ride to my family's grocery store. Maya gave me a questioning look.
"He's the boy who came to my family's store." I told her.
"What happened to him?" She asked.
"I don't know."
I knelt down and tried to check for a pulse. Thankfully the boy was alive but he was barely breathing. There was a large cut in his stomach and it was bleeding a lot. I quickly took out my phone and dialled 911.
After calling I got up. I had never been in this type of situation before. I didn't know what to do, then I remembered I had some tissues in my pocket. Before leaving home I had put them in my pocket just in case, my allergies hadn't been too good this week. I took them out and pressed them against the boy's wound and prayed I was helping.
When people finally arrived the blood had already soaked through the tissues. They put the boy on a stretcher and carried him away. My best friend and I hurried after them. When we arrived at the road we got in my vehicle and followed the ambulance to the hospital.
