Something was not right.
Amelie figured that out when she abruptly woke up from a rather peaceful three hours of sleep. Her temples stung with a fierce headache- a similar headache that happened last time. She knew now that it was a result of the Tesseract... but it didn't seem normal.
Slowly, the young girl sat up, listening carefully to the sounds of the SHIELD building. There was a sort of busy atmosphere around her- the distant sound of feet walking quickly around the buildings, carts rolling, etcetera. Then, in her mind, she felt the loud pulsing energy of the Tesseract. It wasn't good.
Amelie carefully took off the rest of the monitors and the IV, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. Her socked feet padded quietly to the door, where she put an ear to its cool surface and listened. There seemed to be no movement on the other side, the whole floor was quiet and void of any activity that would get her caught.
Briefly her eyes glistened a deep purple, the energy gathered around her fingers as she made a twisting motion with her wrist. The door unlocked and opened, the purple energy keeping it from making a sound.
A rush of cool air came from the hallway, drawing the young girl into the quiet corridor. It was dangerous for her to be sneaking out- Amelie had a feeling they did not trust her like they voiced. However, the young girl had a knack for knowing when something was going to go horribly wrong. Investigating was the main priority- especially if it was causing her pain.
With quick, quiet footsteps, she moved quickly through the hall. She didn't need directions to tell her where to go- Amelie followed her gut. She knew that she'd come across the Tesseract eventually, because the longer she kept walking, the worse the bad feeling became.
And sure enough, she found it.
Amelie had gone down a few flights of stairs- reaching the basement of the building. It lead off to a large room, clad with giant computers, monitors, and scientific instruments she had no clue about.
Then in the center was what she was looking for.
Encased in a contraption that was doing its bed to contain the vast amounts of energy it contained, the Tesseract was a cube of bright cobalt matter. It glowed brightly, and Amelie immediately connected it to what she had been experimented with for years. She had a connection to it, like two magnets clashing against one another. It pained her head to be standing across the room for it- the vast energy wanting to absorb into a source of similar energy.
Amelie walked slowly into the room, keeping quiet when she noticed the two dozen people standing in the room. No one noticed her as she quickly hid behind a pillar, her breathing low and quick as her eyes never left the glowing cube.
The Tesseract itself seemed to notice the small bit of itself that was inside of Amelie's bloodstream and DNA. It hissed, sending sparks of energy out from the contraption. The young girl winced, her temples throbbing from the headache.
"Miss, you're not supposed to be down here." A voice said behind her back. The young girl froze, eyes wide as she threw her hands up in the air. An Agent, machine gun in hand, was staring down the young girl through a tinted visor.
"Sir!" The Agent called, "We have an intrusion."
"Bring her in." Fury's voice held a hint of amusement, "I knew she'd find her way down here."
The Agent grabbed ahold of Amelie's arm, dragging her into the center of the room. Clint Barton was standing next to Fury, eyebrows raised as the young girl stood meekly in front of them.
"What are you doing down here?" Clint asked, "Your door was locked and bolted."
"Why do you have this?" Amelie asked, pointing to the Tesseract with a shaky hand.
