"She's coming to."

Amelie opened her eyes, taking in a huge gasp of air as the past events came rushing to her. She was covered in ash, soot, and her forehead was pebbled with sweat. They were back in the stolen car, the early morning still dark around them.

"Welcome back to reality." Nat smirked, "How're you feeling?"

The teen sat up, her bones and joints stiff and sore. Something in her arm and shoulder stung something fierce, causing her to grimace in pain. The material of her jacket and sweatshirt were singed, revealing bruises and patches of burnt skin.

"What happened?" Her voice was hoarse, her tongue dry.

"SHIELD sent a missile to kill us." Nat explained, "Obviously we were able to get out."

"Obviously." She repeated, the corners of her mouth raising in a smirk.

"You okay?" Steve glanced at her through the rear-view mirror, noting the teen's pale and clammy appearance under the soot and dirt. Amie nodded, sorely maneuvering herself into a comfortable position.

"I will be fine." She shrugged, "Just sore."

She moved the singed material on her arm to get a better look at what was paining her so much. There were some burns, but nothing terribly bad. However, the bruises lining her forearm and shoulder did not look too good.

Steve was watching her, eyes furrowed in concern, "Did you get burned? Nat, could you-"

Before he could finish, Natasha had already climbed into the back seat. She pulled at the singed material, causing Amelie to grit her teeth from discomfort.

"First degree burns, nothing major. However, she might have broken or fractured something." Natasha noted, "Does it hurt?"

Amie nodded, "Ja."

"We'll have to splint it as soon as we can get our hands on some medical supplies." Steve sighed, "We need a plan. We need somewhere to lay low."

"Everyone we know has been compromised." Nat said, "We have limited to no options."

"We can go to Sam's." Amelie piped up, "He can help."

"No." Steve shook his head, "I'm not involving him."

"Steve, we do not have options." Amelie said with a quirked brow, "Sam may be the only option we have."

"She's right." Nat said, "Sam is the only option."

"Fine." Steve sighed, "We go to Sam's. However, there may even be a chance he won't let us in, depending on what SHIELD's released to the public."

"He's our friend." Amie noted, resting her head against the window, "Of course he'll let us in."

Slowly, closing tired eyes, she fell right asleep again in the back of the car, too exhausted to dream.

"Amie."

She was shaken awake, causing her injured arm to throb in pain. She grimaced, opening her eyes. The car was stopped, parked in the middle of the woods. Why weren't they at Sam's?

"What's happened?" She asked instinctively, preparing for more bad news. What was after them this time? Blood hounds? Drones? Were trackers somehow implanted in their necks?

"We're going to walk the rest of the way." Steve said, rubbing the exhaustion from his eyes. Amie nodded, slowly climbing out of the car. Her small frame looked even tinier next to Steve, her soot-covered sneakers crunching dead leaves.
