"We just want to run blood tests and take a sample of spinal fluid."

Amelie was sitting in a lab, fiddling with the sleeve of her t-shirt as she glanced at the group in front of her.

There was a man named Tony, a doctor they called Banner, Natasha, Fury, and Steve. There was also a rather tall and large man, who was holding a giant hammer, claiming to be Loki's brother.

"You said no more tests." Amelie whispered, staring directly at Steve. She felt a little betrayed, but was tired of fighting the authority here. All she wanted to do was be... normal.

"If we can figure out what links you to the Tesseract, we can find it." Dr. Banner said, "We can stop what Loki is planning."

"All we need is a few drops of spinal fluid and a vial of your blood. Simple, easy, fast." Tony shrugged, "Blueberry?"

He held out a bag of the fruit. Amelie declined, sitting back into the chair. She had spinal fluid taken before- it was no easy task. It hurt, and a few drops never seemed to be enough. Not for Hydra.

"Amelie, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way." Fury spoke up, arms folded across his chest. The young girl's arms broke out in goosebumps at that. After a moment of contemplation, she simply nodded.

Amelie followed Tony and Dr. Banner to another section of the lab. Loki's spear sat on a table, the glowing tip attracting her attention right away.

She stopped in her tracks, her eyes fixed on the spear.

"What are you doing with that?" She asked.

"That's none of your business." Fury snapped. Amelie bit her tongue, moving forward at a slower pace. Her hands trembled by her sides as she sat down on an examination table, feeling the eyes of everyone in the room on her.

Slowly, the eleven-year-old rolled up her sleeve, revealing blue veins under extremely pale skin. Dr. Banner quickly and efficiently took blood, only a vial or two, before putting a bandaid where a small dot of blood began to collect.

Dr. Banner then moved to the back of her, where Amelie lifted the hem of her shirt. The area was cleaned, and soon she felt the painful jab of the needle go into her spine. She made a face, grimacing in pain as her whole body tensed up.

"I'm spraying some cold spray on there so you aren't so sore." He said, wiping her lower back clean with an alcohol wipe.

"Danke, Dr. Banner." Amelie peeped quietly, the cooling spray relieving the soreness of her lower back.

"Call me Bruce." He shrugged, putting the vial of spinal fluid on a tray.

"No more tests?" She asked hopefully, wishing that the vile of blood and spinal fluid was all they needed in order to find the Tesseract.

"For now." Tony shrugged, "Expect more-"

"No more tests." Steve interjected, "She's been here enough."

"This 'respect your elders' thing is getting kind of old, Rogers."

"Stark-"

"Enough." Fury cut them off, "Play time is over, ladies. Now, Stark, don't you and Dr. Banner have work to do? Romanoff, please escort Amelie back to her room."

"Would you like me to question Loki afterwards?"

"Please."

-----

As Amelie got a couple pages further into the book- she wondered if this was the normal lifestyle of girls her age. Playing, gossiping, playing piano. Of course, this was during the Civil War (she didn't really know what that was, but knew it was over 100 years ago).

However, Amelie wondered what her life would've been like if she was normal. Would she have parents? Siblings? Where would they live? She imagined she'd be really good at reading and history if she had a normal life. Maybe she'd do ballet, or play the piano like Beth in her book.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the door was opened to reveal someone she hasn't met before. Amelie closed the book, marking her page as she glanced up at the person.

"Hi. I'm Coulson. Phil Coulson. They told me I needed to check on you." He said, shutting the door behind him.

"Okay." Amelie shrugged. It had been a few hours since she had seen anyone besides Loki in his cell that she could see from the window, "I am Amelie."

"I know." Coulson said, pulling up a chair so he sat by her bed, "I brought some takeout."

"Takeout?"

"Yeah, it's like food you can get from a restaurant that they deliver to your house."

"Oh. Okay." Amelie grabbed the small container Coulson held out for her, "Thank you."

Quietly she opened the meal and immediately dug in, the new tastes and textures a party on her tongue and pallet. Coulson ate with her as well, slowly beginning to make small talk.

"Did they give you anything to do in here?" He asked, "I thought we'd be more accommodating to guests."

"Steve gave me a book." Amelie answered, "I am not so good at reading yet."

"You'll get the hang of it." Coulson picked up the book, "Little Women. Classic. I had to read it in high school. They give you anything else? Not even Netflix or something?"

"Netflix?"

"Movies and TV shows." Coulson wiped his mouth with a napkin, "Good thing I brought these."

Coulson took out a small pack of cards. Amelie had seen guards at Hydra play with them, though she wasn't one hundred percent sure what they were or how you would play with them. She saw money and little colored disks involved.

"I'll teach you how to play a few games." He said.

"Thank you." Amelie smiled, adjusting her position on the bed as Coulson laid out the cards in front of her.

They started with Go Fish, and then Old Maid. Amelie was quite a fast learner with the cards, so Coulson was able to teach her quite a few different games. She learned Crazy Eights, Slap Jack, and even one she could play by herself. He called it Solitaire.

Amelie liked Coulson, and felt she could really trust him. He told her a lot about the world that she didn't know, and answered many questions she had for him. He joked, told her about how he used to worship Steve as his childhood hero (and still does), and even said one day he'd have to show her how to play poker.

"Next time I come in, I'll bring in something else I can find around here." He got up, collecting the picked over remnants of their lunch, "But I have to go."

Amelie gathered all of the cards, placing them neatly back in the pack to hand them to the Agent, "Here. They are yours."

"Keep them." Coulson shrugged, "You need them more than I do."

Amelie glanced down at the pack of cards, smiling.

"Thank you, Agent Coulson." The young girl paused, "Can I ask you a question?"

"Anything, Amelie."

"Do they trust me out there?" She asked, her hazel eyes wide and filled with the anticipation of a positive answer. However, Coulson wasn't sure he could give her one.

"They will." He said, "I'm trying."

With that, he left the room, leaving Amelie once again alone in her room- where she wasn't able to escape.

However, she took out the cards and shuffled them, grateful that she had something else to keep her mind off the fact that maybe Loki wasn't the only prisoner on the helicarrier.
