As A Woman I Dare
🌼
The glass ceiling reflects the disparity between what I deserve and what I've been denied.
The harsh truth of this rocky ride, identified and unjustified.
🌼
The mirror taunts me, "Are you satisfied in your insubordination?" "It's your distorted perception," they say. "Can't you see the steps we have taken to bridge the gap?"
🌼
The gaps are the holes in their lies,
The intricate web of lies they keep spinning to trap unsuspecting individuals.I see the prisoners caught in their own ignorance.
Some struggling, trying to slip from the clutches of the master spider.
"How did I end up here?" They wonder.
🌼
He grabs my hand, his entourage following him diligently.
Pointing towards the glass ceiling he says, "That my love, is your limit. Too high for you to touch, let alone break it." The crowd hums in approval.
🌼
I could feel his words slipping into my skin restricting me, suffocating me, ruining me. "Don’t act out," I tell myself, "Prim and proper, paste a smile. Don't let them know."
🌼
"You know your place now.Inferior, subordinate, fragile little thing
Punch all windows you want, you can't touch the glass ceiling, " he mocks.
🌼
Something inside me snaps, I lash out.
Screw prim and proper.
Letting out a scream, a battle cry. Shattering the glass that tried to contain the free spirits,
Shards fall down like rain, he and his entourage runs for cover.
🌼
I smirk to myself thinking it's time for them to be held accountable.I take off my heels, heels he presented to walk behind him, to follow his lead.
Walk over the broken glass the pain doesn’t bother me anymore.
The broken glass reflects the truth.
I will demolish anything that hinders my growth.
🌼
The sky is mine to conquer.
So as a woman I dare.
