I sat for what seemed like years with Jack and Zack before the doctor finally came out to us. “Bonnex?” He asks us. We jump up and head over to him. “Are you three friends of Miss Bonnex?” He avoids eye contact, checking and reading over his clipboard.

“Yes,” I say quickly. He hardly had time to finish his sentence.

“She’s awake for the moment. The medications she took may make her dose off every now and then, but she will be fine. We took care of here. Since she is eighteen, it is her decision if she’d like further assistance upon release. If all goes well, we can release her tomorrow late afternoon.” He smiles meekly at us, finally taking his tired eyes off of the clipboard.

“May we see her?” Jack asks him.

“Yes, but I would appreciate it if you kept it down. I know this is a stressful situation, but I’d like you to remain calm.” He smiles and we nod eagerly, like kids on Christmas morning. “Follow me.” He turns on his heels and takes us back a bright, long hallway. It’s mostly silent. My heart pounds in my ears as I grip the flowers in my left hand and while my right hand is shoved in my pocket, feeling my note for her. “Here we are, good luck.” He says kindly and walks away.

Jack stops before turning the knob. “Aren’t you coming?”

“I-I,” I stutter. “I’ll be right in, I have to check something.” Zack and Jack eye me up but nod and walk in. For a brief second, I hear her heartbeat over the machines. Then the door closes. I pull out the paper, hastily reading over what my messy hand writing scribbled down in the past hours; my mistakes crossed out vigorously.

                My Riley,

I’m so sorry for what I’ve done to you, to the guys; to us. You’re the most precious thing in my life and I can’t live if you just walk out on me. I know I screwed up, but listen, please.

I ended it with her. I don’t love her, Ri. I don’t even have a high school crush on her. What she and I had was nothing. She’s nothing to me, you’re everything.

That girl, she’s such a bitch, Riley. You’re so much more than what she thinks you are, Ashton, or what you think. You, My Riley, are absolutely nothing but perfect. You’re gorgeous, okay? The way your smile lights up a room, the way your voice sounds like a beautiful melody, the way your body moves; all of it, it sets me on fire.

I’m sorry you feel so helpless and worthless. You are not what you think. If I could let you see through my eyes what you really are, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I know that I wasn’t there for you after time and time again I promised I would be. This time, I do not promise you, because you may not take me seriously yet, and I understand that. This time, I offer you my love, trust, and friendship. Whatever you want from me, here it is, Riley. I’m always here for you, we all are.

Trust me when I say you are beautiful, you are perfect, you are extraordinary; you’re My Riley, and I wouldn’t trade you for anything the world could offer me, and I love you.

I sigh, satisfied with my note. I take a deep breath and knock before turning the knob. There she is. She looks so broken, helpless. Like a child, even.

“Can we have a minute, Riley?” I ask shyly, my eyes flickering to the guys. She nods weakly, her eyes drooping slightly. The guys pat my back on the way out and I walk to her and pull a chair next to her. I smile and hold her hand. She flinches away, but relaxes. “I, uh, I have something for you.” I stumble over my words.
