Chapter 27
"Excuse me?" I blurted as Nik continued to hold the man's neck and curse profoundly in Hungarian.
"Your father wants his daughter back," he spat at Nik whose eyes began to glimmer with hate towards the foreign person.
Finally pulling herself off me Cher sits on the chair rubbing her forehead.
"Sadly, I'm no one's daughter," Nik gave him a warning growl and pulled himself away from the man but stood a safe distance just so he was in the centre of me and him.
"Leave," Nik commanded making sure the guy knew he either complied or he isn't leaving with anything less than a broken body.
The guy slinked back through the window as Nik rushed towards me, he grabbed me in a comforting embrace.
"Who do you think he is?" Ed asked after a while staring at the broken window.
"I never dealt with anyone from Hungary...but he might be a hit man, so I have to assume that bullshit story about her dad was to get my only weakness away from me..." After the initial shock of his murderous tone I shook my head; it doesn't make sense!
"Can't be, Nik if you are the greatest assassin in the world don't you think they would have come prepared? Especially to get me away from you, don't get me wrong you would never let me go but that doesn't mean your enemies are stupid. What if it was actually my father?" I couldn't shake the shiver from my spine.
My mother actually never said he was dead, I just assumed he was because from the sounds of things he was really into the illegal business, my mother tried to break it off with him but she said he never relented.
After they had Maxwell I pretty much remember his shadow, not his face. He was never around and that was never an issue since he never seemed to raise a hand against my mother.
"But your father isn't listed on your birth certificate..." he mumbled.
"It happens Nik you need both parents to sign, my father sure as hell didn't, probably off doing crack or something, my father was a complete asshole; well not really...I never knew him. I can't even remember what he looked like; I never cared because I had Maxwell anyway," I shrugged.
Nik petted my belly before reluctantly moving to the side to check on Cher who is still grasping her head feeling a throb to the side where she had landed on Quinn, "So I'm going to be a grandmother?" I smile; leave it to Cher to be the person who breaks the awful topic to something surprising.
"Yes mom," Nik grinned kissing her cheek as Ed walked to me and embraced me.
"Man sucks knowing my son is all grown up," Ed winked.
"Yeah, I stole all the years you were never given," my husband grumbled earning a slap to the back of his head by Cher who smiled.
"Do you guys need help if that guy com-" Nik stopped her with a dark look.
"No," he grunted obnoxiously as he pulled me towards him. "I'll do absolutely fine," he continued trying to appease his mother who grew anxious.
"Just remember...never underestimate the enemy," it surprised me to hear Cher sound so murderous, and now I knew where the division was between both Nik's parents. Ed is dominating and intimidating, yet his fatigue and attitude is the complete opposite! His playful teasing and he loves to watch his victim's reaction. Cher is patient and may look like an easy opponent but her very voice made me shiver with the intensity of her possessiveness and I could even see the tones of regret as she looked over at a frame with a small girl at the centre.
