I stood shaking as the masked man walked away and onto his motorcycle. My hands freaking out from the envelop now in my grasp. There was only one way to find out. 'Only one way. Only one way to find out' I kept repeating to myself. It was a simple task that required no trouble, but now, it was a whole different situation. My life was flashing before my eyes as I looked at every intricate design on it. I took a deep breath in and tore the flap open.
(This is the letter)
The words of the letter passed through my mind once and over. I knew what it meant. And when I finished I put the envelop upside down and out slid a ring. It was a skull with roses.
(This is the ring)If it didn't have such a terrible meaning behind it, I would wear it. It was definitely my style. I need to decide if I was going to wear it. I could protect Jake and his friends. But it was a promise I didn't want to keep. I didn't want to tell Jake because I didn't want him to get more involved then he is. He is already in danger as it is. "Maybe I should tell him" I said out loud. "Tell who?" A familiar scruffy voice said. I fell to my side and stared at his now curious eyes. "I-i, uhhh" was all I could get out. "And why are you ignoring me? Did I do something?" I looked down at my ankles in shame. He was someone who decided to stay with me when no one else in my life has. I sighed. He doesn't deserve this. He deserves better than me. "Listen Jake. I-i don't know how to tell you this" I stuttered. "I-i don't think we can be friends. I am putting you in danger..." He looked at me shocked and hurt. Like he couldn't believe that I didn't think he could handle this. And he probably couldn't.
"I'm not going anywhere, Luna. You are the closest thing I've had to a family besides Marc and Cole. And family sticks together." I stood there in awe, eyes watering. He opened his arms and motioned me in for a hug. I gladly took the offer. Body holding body, we stood there for five minutes. It was nice to have someone care. Maybe I'm not as alone as I once thought. "What's the real reason, Luna." Oh shit. Scratch that idea. "I-I... ill tell you at home." He smiled and nodded. I took my bike and he took his back to my place for some much needed explaining. We sat at the kitchen counter on silence before he broke it. "What happened?" I motioned to my bag. He looked at me confused. I got up and unzipped it showing the new envelop and letter. He understood. I took it out and dropped it on the table. "He wants me to wear a ring to promise myself to him and he promised to keep people out of this. He also said that he has been watching me for years. Stalker much?" Jake ran his hands through his hair and was freeking out. He didn't know how to react so I put my head down. The problem was that neither did I.
We took a deep breath at the same time but were too deep in thought to notice. "So what's the plan? He probably has people watching you at school and home to. I wonder how he found you." Jake went on. I didn't know what to stop him with so I let him keep talking. Maybe he would figure it out. "Ugggg!" I yelled. He looked at me confused. "I'm going to the fight house. I need to vent my anger." He nodded. "I'll come too." I gave him a smirk. We ended up racing to out bikes and zooming off. I beat him to it. We went behind the building where the bouncer wasn't so I could change. Jake kept watch as I slid on my shirt, pants, and mask. "And, done." We strutted to the front of the building, where the bouncer studied Jake and I. "Two best fighters coming together?" He snickered and motioned us in.
Cheers could be heard from the other room as we entered the secret doorway. The smell of body odor and sweat hit us like a truck. To me it was welcoming but not so much to Jake. I chuckled as he swiped his hand back and forth, in front if his nose. As we entered the fight room, half of the people there stopped what they were doing and stared. It makes sense when the best and second best fighter come walking into the room. No less, TOGETHER. After ten seconds though, people went back to what they were doing. I slapped Jake's chest and bet. "I bet I can make more cash at the end of this." He gave a cocky smirk. "It's on blueberry... it's so on." We gave our names to the ref and he put us on the board.
I was ready for this. I needed this. Right? Beating people up to feel better. I sound like a bully. But it's for cash. But it's wrong. Right? My brain started contemplating with itself so I just pushed all of them to the back and began warming up. After I finished, I tapped Jake's back and he turned around. "Do you think we should tell C.x and M. about me?" He shrugged his shoulders. "We'll figure it out after tonight." I nodded. We watched as the two in the ring were jumping at each other and attacking. Their postures were all wrong and they weren't holding their fists right either. I looked to my side and I could see that Jake was examining their movements as well. They were so predictable.
A whole night of fights made me feel pure again. Yes it's strange to say that but when I fight, it seems to cleanse me from all my stress and anger. Only fighters would understand. Jake and I walked up to the judge on the chair and collected our earnings. I ended with 46,064 dollars and he 37,550. I fanned myself in response and teased him. "I won! Haha! Told you. We need to start doing a prize for the winner." He enrolled his eyes and we rode off into the night. Not a thought of the letters or it's writer passed my mind the rest of the night. Jake ended up sleeping over to 'ease his mind'. I think he just wants to make sure I'm safe. Which is nice to experience after so long of isolation. With him I feel, wanted and appreciated. One day I will repay him. 'I hope our friendship lasts.' Was the last thought I had before falling into a deep sleep.
