I enter New Orleans late at night and drive straight to the mansion he was staying at last time I was here. Thankfully, he is still staying at the same place and hasn't moved yet to keep him self safe. I click my tongue at that before turning off my bike and walking up the steps letting my heels click on the steps announcing my presence. I walk into the parlour to hear him give a soft sigh causing me to give a satisfied smirk.

"I assume you know why I'm here James."

"Of course, I do. You're here for the child and you can have him." He says with venom in his tone.

"This is far too easy for something of this caliber. I have to have paperwork saying I'm his legal guardian which costs a shot ton. Why are you doing this?"

"Do you remember the story I told you of Mary? How I thought she was the one for me?"

"Yeah, I remember she was a fellow witch that you loved and you were under the impression she was too."

"That is her child and that's why I am agreeing to let you take the child." He says without looking at me.

"I already know he's part vampire so please explain to me anything you know about him."

"Mary was seeing a vampire without the coven knowing and that child killed her when he was born. The father didn't care about Mary or that she died because she was just a toy to him. That's why I tried to turn you and make you a witch at the same time. I thought if someone survived the trials then she could have survived being turned. Then the coven left because of what I have done to you."

"You're lonely and have been since Mary was killed that's why you made me. You wanted someone who wouldn't leave you through death. Jamie you promised to tell me if things changed drastically and you didn't tell me about the coven leaving. Why did you send James after me a few months ago?"

"I wanted you to be taken away from this life because I toyed with yours. I thought you deserved to have your life back and if killing you was the way to make you happy I would do it. I didn't realise you had found a family up there that would protect you and your sister without a thought. You did very well against James if you can't remember it. I was surprised watching you fight this tracker who had spent years tracking and killing people yet you helped defeat him."

"I didn't just fight for Bella that day I fought for all of them because if I didn't save all of them I would have failed. Why are you staying here if there is nothing for you?"

"I have nothing Is. I stay here because I have no connections and no one would like to see me ever again."

"That's a lie and the both of us know it Jamie. The two of us have had our spats, but I still think of you as a friend. It took a bit for me to realise that perhaps I needed to forgive you for what happened that day and I've forgiven you a hundred times over. If you ever want to move just call me and I can suggest a few places that you would love."

"I might just follow you to Forks after your next adventure that is coming. Here is the paperwork you're going to need later and be careful of his father. I'll be rooting for you of course."

"Thanks Jamie. Seriously if you ever need someone to talk to just call me. I don't sleep so whenever is fine."

I leave the mansion behind feeling slightly lighter knowing this new information about James and the child. Perhaps Janes will come visit one day and I give a small smile before heading to see Rosetta at her bar. I slide into a seat and see the huge smile on her face as she bartends making me give a smile. I sit there all night before my phone begins ringing and I go outside to answer it. I press my Bluetooth in my ear to hear the person better as the people around me talk causing me to roll my eyes.

"Donia you didn't pick your phone up yesterday and you weren't home where were you?" Edward says rapidly.

"Yes I know and I'm sorry for that. I was supposed to be home for your check in, but I got an urgent vision about the pack. I had to go make sure everything was going to be okay from that vision. So, where are you?"

"I'm close to Italy, but I'm not going near Voltura if you're worried. Where are you at?"

"I'm back in New Orleans on a separate vision and if you come home you can see the surprise I'm bringing with me. I'll only be here for a little bit then I'll go back home."

"Maybe I'll come home to see your surprise Donia."

We hang up and I realise how late it is which means I need to be off the streets until tomorrow. I enter Rosetta's house with my key before laying on the bed to pass the time until tomorrow night.

I leave my room the next day and get on my motorcycle before listening for the child's thoughts. I'm desperate and that's when I hear the fear filled thoughts and race to them. I slide my bike in between the child and man with an angry hiss coming from my lips. The man smirks seeing me and a feral snarl rips from deep within me causing him to take a step back. I give a triumphant smile before holding out a hand to the child who looks utterly terrified and part of me wishes I had the ability to calm him like Jasper. He looks behind me before taking my hand and I pull him on the bike before I get off. His father as I find out through his thoughts comes forward intending to terrify my which makes me scoff. He swings at me and I duck before sending a punch at his face with my newborn strength that sends him on his ass. He looks at me and I see the cracks on his face before I take a step forward making him scramble backward.

"You're going to let me take him away because he deserves better than you can give him. I will take care of him and no one will ever be able to touch him ever again. If you have a problem go speak to James about it."

I leave him on the ground speechless as I make sure the child is in front of me on the bike. I drive away quickly before making it to Rosetta's house where she is getting home early from the bar. She spots me and waves before seeing the child in my arms. He shifts to look over the handles as I get off and help him off my motorcycle. He squeals loudly before running forward before almost hitting the sidewalk with his face. I catch him before he can even think he's going to hit the sidewalk and he looks at me in surprise.

"Rosetta would you mind is staying for a few days? After that I'm going home and bringing him with me."

"Ro Ro!" He says gleefully.

"You guys can stay and we can bring him to the bar if need be."

"I don't want to, but it may be necessary so he doesn't get hurt. Thank you Rosetta."

Rosetta falls asleep instantly and not long after the little boy I saved falls asleep as well. Sometime during the night he thinks about his name and I smile finally knowing it. Canaan curls up to me in his sleep and wraps a hand in my shirt as if he is afraid I'll leave him. In that instant I vow to never leave his side unless absolutely necessary for his safety.
