The next few days Canaan sticks to me like glue and barely leaves my side especially at the bar. Something about the bar makes him hold on tightly to my leg, but it's not fear which is confusing. Some of the regulars look surprised before I explain that I adopted him and they give smiles. They are happy that a happy kid like him is going to have a better life than what he had previously. When I sing at the bar he always sits at my feet looking at me with awe and at night when he can't sleep he asks me to sing to him.

Tonight the bar is pretty empty as I go up to the stage holding Canaan on my hip. I set him down as I sit on the chair a thankful relief after the bartending I've been doing tonight. Canaan gets situated as I think of a song to sing, but can't think of one off the top of my head. I think of Bella in that moment and a smile graces my features as the song comes to mind.

"How are y'all doing tonight? Tonight I'm going to be singing Carolina by Parmalee. I hope y'all enjoy it."

Home is where my heart is still beatin'
I don't know when I'll see her again
I hate to see her cry when I'm leavin'
Now I'm a thousand miles away again

And she feels like Carolina, looks like California
Shining like those New York lights on Broadway
When she looks back I'm behind her
I'll always be there for her
She makes me feel like home's not so far away
She feels like Carolina

It's hard to understand the way I'm living
And I know she's thinks I'm never coming home
But I miss her pretty smile and I'm coming back in a little while
But I'm a thousand miles away again

And she feels like Carolina, looks like California
Shining like those New York lights on Broadway
When she looks back I'm behind her
I'll always be there for her
She makes me feel like home's not so far away

No matter how far I go
You know I can't stop thinking about her
And there's nothing like the way I feel
The way I feel when I'm beside her
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh

She feels like Carolina, looks like California
Shining like those New York lights on Broadway
When she looks back I'm behind her
I'll always be there for her
She makes me feel like home's not so far away
Carolina, California
Like home's not so far away
She feels like Carolina, looks like California
She makes me feel like home's not so far away
She makes me feel like home's not so far away

I finish the song just as I hear a familiar set of thoughts enter the bar making me give a smile. I stand up before making my way down the stage as he stands next to the bar looking around. Canaan attaches himself to my leg as I walk making it harder for me to walk. Rosetta comes and grabs him before setting him in his seat as he gives a small pout. I give a laugh at the expression before making my way to my original destination.

"Jazz what are you doing here?" I ask making the regulars look at us for a second.

"Alice needs you to go to Italy to stop your brother from making a stupid decision. She heard from someone that something happened to your sister and he might get wind of it."

"Damn it Bells! Alright, but there's a complication to me leaving."

"We've already got your airplane ticket if that's the issue."
