As I washed my hands in the disgusting McDonald's bathroom, I examined myself in the mirror. My ponytail was a bit messy and make-up slightly smudged (probably because of my laughing fit). I was wearing jeans and my painting T-shirt over my bathing suit. I had quickly changed out of my wet-suit and threw on clothes before we had left the beach.
When I finished washing my hands, I grabbed a few paper towels. When they were dry, I took my hair out of its ponytail and ran my fingers through it. When I was satisfied with it, I fixed my make-up a little and left.
I was starting to feel really hungry, so I got in line. Normally, I can't stand fast-food, especially McDonald's because of that movie they showed us in middle school, Supersize Me, but I was starving.
While I was waiting for my food, I noticed a guy sitting in the corner. He looked a few years older than me and had dark hair and a 5 o'clock shadow. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and dark designer jeans. He actually could be kind of hot if he weren't scaring the crap out of me. He was staring at me. Not in the checking-you-out kind of stare, either. More like the, I-know-your-secret-and-I'm-going-to-kill-you kind of stare. Now that I thought about it, I noticed him looking at me when I first walked in. Although, I realized now he hasn't taken his eyes off me since I walked out of the bathroom.
"Ma'am! Get your food, please. You're holding up the line." The cashier said. Apparently, she had been trying to get my attention for a while.
"Sorry." I mumbled. I grabbed the bag and water bottle and quickly headed for the door. I didn't bother to get ketchup or anything because the creepy guy was over there.
I swiftly made my way to my car and jumped in. I locked the doors.
"Jeesh, that took a while. I thought you were just going to the bathroom." Cole chuckled.
"I got hungry." I muttered and handed him the bag. He started digging through the bag and wolfing down fries, before he looked up and noticed me staring at the steering wheel.
"Hey, Logie, what's wrong? You look like you saw a ghost." he said, sounding concerned.
"Sorry...I'm fine... There was just this guy- OH MY GOD!" I had looked out the window to see the creeper walking toward my car. I started the engine and shot out the parking space like a bat out of hell. I just barely missed him too. Damn...
"Whoa!" Cole yelled, spilling some fries on the floor "What the hell is going on, Logie?!"
"There was a guy staring at me. He was scaring the freaking crap out of me! And when I looked out the window he was walking toward my car!"
An alarmed look crossed his immediately. He turned his head and sat in silence for a moment. Without looking me in the eye, he said, "It's probably nothing. He was probably just checking you out and wanted your number or something." he sounded as though he was trying to convince himself more than me.
"I-I don't think so. There was more to it. They way he looked at me was... menacing. He looked like he wanted something from me, like he knew me. Like, he wanted to kill me or something. It was truly frightening and made the hairs on the back of neck stand up. I really do not scare easy, but that was honestly one of the scariest moments of my life." I said, my throat starting to feel heavy. Cole didn't saying anything. He glanced at me for a second and caught my eye. He looked away instantly, but not before I noticed the... almost guilty look in his eyes that also held worry and fearfulness.
"Cole... You sounded like you were trying to convince yourself not me, you won't look me in the eye, and now YOU look like you just saw a ghost. Do you know something? Does it have to do with what happened earlier? I deserve to know. What's going on? Cole! Tell me, now! What hell is happening?" I rambled and then half shrieked at the end. He winced and glanced at me.
"It's nothing. What are you talking about? Just calm down, okay, Logie? I was just concerned. And upset that this has you so freaked out and that for all we know, this guy is a rapist and you could've been in danger. I'm so sorry. I should've gone in with you." he said sincerely. I believed him, but at the same time I didn't. I think there's more to it than what he's telling me. I will get it out of him eventually.
"... Do you think we should call the cops?" I asked.
"No." he said a bit too quickly, "I mean, we don't know who this guy is. He's just some guy who looked at you funny. The cops will just laugh if you tell them that."
"But what if he's dangerous? He could be a rapist! He could hurt someone! It wasn't me, but it could be someone else! Shouldn't we do something? Tell somebody?"
"I'm afraid there's probably nothing we can do." he sighed.
"There has to be something..." I muttered.
"Logie, we're probably blowing this way out of proportion. He might've been harmless."
"Are you saying you don't believe me, Cole?" I asked, hurt. "I know what I saw. I know what I felt. He was not harmless." I said, stubbornly.
"That's not what I'm saying. Of course, I believe you. It's just, do you really think the cops are gonna be able to do anything about it? And do you really want to get them involved, dragging this bad day out even longer, just to be shot down?" he asked, quietly.
I have to say, he was really convincing and he did have a point. The cops can't do anything about it. I was really tired, too. I just wanted go home and sleep. It was still bugging me though, he was hiding something.
"No... But I can't just sit by while this creep could be hurting people. I'm going back tomorrow and I'm going to see if he's there. See if he likes to hang-out there and pick victims. I'm going to do something about it." I was determined.
"What? No. Logie, that's insane! He'll just try something on you again. Don't even think about it. It's too dangerous, you'll get hurt." he sounded just as stubborn as me. It was really sweet how protective he was being.
"I'll disguise myself or something, I don't know, but I have to do something." I sighed.
"Logan, don't." he said, seriously; more serious than I've ever heard him.
"Fine... But why do you care so much?" I asked, curious.
"You saved my life and helped me out way more than you needed too, I owe you." he said with shockingly little emotion.
"Oh..." I mumbled, choking up a bit. So he doesn't really care? He just owes me.
"And, Logie, I couldn't bear it if I pick up the paper in a few days and find your missing person picture on the front page. I'd feel like it was all my fault and... I do care about you; you've been so great to me. I don't know how I'll ever repay you." I looked at him. He was staring at me with his eyes full of emotion and a genuine smile. I smiled back.
"You don't need to repay me... But since you're offering, I might just take you up on that someday." I grinned.
"And I'll be waiting." he smirked.
So tell me what'cha think and if you like it, go ahead, vote and fan if you want. I'd appreciate it bunches(:
