Over the next few weeks, Scott becomes more overwhelmed. He thought things would be easier after coming back home. But, they weren't. His parents are watching over him like hawks while Mitch is constantly talking to him about memories. Scott just wants to hide away from the whole world.
"Mitchell!" Connie shouts as he walks to Mitch's room. She opens the door, and sees Mitch on his bed.
"What?" Mitch asks as he looks up at Connie. His eyes widen when he sees the angry look on her face.
"I thought I told you not to pressure Scott about his memories?" Connie asks. "He was gone for six years, and that Alpha abused him to the point of exhaustion. He needs time!"
"How much time?" Mitch asks, standing up from the bed. "I waited six years for my Alpha to come back!"
"Mitchell!" Connie warns, sighing. "I understand how you must feel about him not remembering you, but you need to lay off Scott. I just found him crying his eyes out about how he's disappointing you."
Mitch stares at him. "I was just trying to help..." He mumbles.
"You were doing it for a selfish reason," Connie says. "I mean, I know you care about Scott. We all do. But, you only wanted him to remember you. Scott's been through a lot, Mitch. I really don't know how many times we have to say that. He needs time to move on from what happened. He's only been home for a few weeks and these few weeks hasn't been easy on him. So, just... relax, okay? He's home now."
Mitch takes a deep breath before slowly nodding. "Okay," he mumbles.
Connie lets out a sigh, before turning around and walking out of the bedroom.
Scott hesitates as he watches his mom walk down the stairs from his bedroom. He waits for a few moments before he also walks down the stairs. Once downstairs, he slips on his shoes, and then quickly slips out the door. He hasn't been out of the house since the failed shopping trip. He just wants to be outside in the fresh air. He spent six years locked inside a small room, unable to go outside.
Scott walks over and sits down on the swing.
As Scott sits on the swing, he notices people walking around and children playing. It must be nice to walk around without having to worry about someone kidnapping you. Scott misses when he was carefree.
Time passes by pretty quickly, and Scott doesn't realize he's actually been sitting on the porch for hours, until he sees a car pull into the driver. He looks up and sees that it's just his dad, luckily.
"Hi dad," Scott greets cheerfully when Rick walks up to the porch.
"What are you doing out here?" Rick asks, shocked to see Scott. "Does your mother know...?"
"No," Scott replies. "I just wanted to come sit outside. It's not like I went anywhere."
Rick sighs. "You can't do that Scott," he says. "What would have happened if someone saw you?"
"A lot of people saw me, but nobody came up to me," Scott tells him. "I just people watched."
"Come on, get inside. We need to go over some ground rules," Rick tells him.
Scott frowns, and stands up from the swing. He walks into the house, and is instantly greeted by his mom.
"Where have you been, Scott Richard? I've been looking everywhere for you!" Connie exclaims, panicked. "Mitch told me that you weren't in your room. I thought something happened."
"I was just outside," Scott says, blinking a few times.
"This is exactly why you can't just go outside Scott," Rick says, placing his suitcase down. "You were gone for six years. You can't just walk out of the house without telling anyone. Do you understand?"
"I-I-" Scott takes a deep breath, trying not to panic. He understands that his parents worry about him, and they have every right to. But, it's not fair that they're taking away so much of his freedom when his freedom was already taken away by an Alpha who kept him locked up for six years.
"Scott?" Connie asks, instantly noticing Scott's breathing picking up. "Sweetheart, are you okay?"
"Stop!" Scott cries. "Stop calling me sweetheart! Stop babying me! Just leave me alone!" He sniffs, and then he runs up the stairs, not even saying anything when he passes Mitch on the stairs.
"What was that about?" Mitch asks, his eyes widening.
Connie frowns. "I don't know what we're doing wrong. We're doing everything we can to protect him,"
"Scott just needs to understand that he can't just walk out of the house whenever he wants to,"
"Sir..." Mitch begins as he walks down the stairs. "Scott was locked up for six years. Just think about it, there wasn't a time in those six whole years when he was allowed outside. He couldn't get any fresh air," he sighs. "I understand that you're both trying to protect him. But, Scott just wants his freedom back."
"Mitch is right," Connie nods in agreement. "We can protect him, but he needs his freedom back."
"And what happens when someone takes him away again?" Rick asks.
"We just have to hope that it won't happen again," Connie says softly. "But first, we need to get his weight back on. He's such a skinny thing, and he won't be able to stand up for himself if someone tries to kidnap him again. We need him to know that he's an Alpha, and how to look after himself."
"There's no way. Scott doesn't believe that he's an Alpha," Mitch says. "Trust me, I've tried to tell him."
"Well, we're just going to have to try harder, won't we?" Connie looks over at her husband worriedly.
