Scott starts going to the gym weekly, wanting to get more fit. He also starts eating more healthy foods, with the help of his mom because she wants him to get healthy but in the right way.
Going to the gym means Scott has to go out in public more. It's been less than a year now since he's come back from his kidnapping, and he's unfortunately still getting used to interacting with strangers while also trying to understand that not everybody is out to get him.
Mitch has been going with Scott to the gym so he doesn't panic, and for company.
Although, Mitch stays clear away from the gym equipment, not wanting to exercise himself.
"You did great today, Alpha," Mitch smiles as he looks up at Scott. "Ew! You're sweaty-" He giggles as Scott tries to hug him. "No hugs until you shower!"
Scott pouts, and then uses the towel to dry some of the sweat off his face. "I need to change clothes. Will you be okay out here by yourself? I know it's kind of like a rule not to leave Omegas unintended but Omegas aren't allowed in the locker room with Alphas, which is a totally stupid rule."
Mitch chuckles. "It's because Alphas can't keep it in their pants," he giggles at the look of Scott's face. "Don't worry. I'll be okay. It's just for a couple of minutes. I'll just yell if anything happens,"
Scott stares at him for a moment before slowly nodding. "Okay. I promise I'll be right back," he says before grabbing his gym back and then quickly heading into the locker room.
Scott comes back out a few minutes later, and is relieved when he finds Mitch still waiting for him.
"I was thinking we could stop and get some Starbucks?" Scott suggests, walking over to Mitch.
"Really?" Mitch asks, looking up at Scott. "You would be okay with that?"
"Yeah," Scott nods. "I-I think that it would be fine. Besides, if there are a lot of people then we can just go through the drive through. I just really want Starbucks." He blushes.
"That's my mood twenty four seven," Mitch says. He grabs Scott's hand. They start walking out of the gym but stop when someone walks in just as they're leaving. Mitch looks up and his eyes widen slightly when he sees that it's Beau. They stare at each other before Mitch tugs Scott's arm and they walk out before Beau can get the chance to say anything to Mitch.
"Is he going to be a problem?" Scott asks, looking over at Mitch worriedly.
"No, it's fine," Mitch tells him. "He's just pissed that he didn't get his way with me."
"So, he has been trying to get with you?" Scott asks, frowning.
Mitch rolls his eyes as he looks over at Scott. "No, Scott. Not like that. He just bosses me around a lot, and I finally told him to fuck off. Beau's out of my life for good. We're obviously going to run into each other, but I'm not paying attention to him. You're the only Alpha I have eyes for."
Scott can't help but smile at Mitch's words.
Finally, the two get into the car and drive to Starbucks. It's not too busy, so Scott decides to go in.
"I can pay. Dad gave me some money-" Scott tries as he and Mitch stand in line.
"Don't be silly. I want to pay," Mitch says. "You can pay next time, okay?"
Scott pouts. "Okay, fine," he says, putting his wallet away.
They walk up to the counter when it's finally their turn. Mitch talks to the barista, Scott being too shy.
Scott happens to glance out the window, and sees a person standing by a car. He has to do a double take when he swears he sees Damien staring right back at him with that familiar smirk.
Scott's breathing instantly starts picking up. He quickly turns to Mitch and tries to get his attention by repeatedly poking him on the shoulder. "M-Mitchy," he glances back at the window.
"Scott, I'm trying to order. Give me a second-" Mitch says.
Scott whimpers and looks around, wanting to find a place to hide. He doesn't care there are other people around him. He finds the quickest corner and runs to it, curling himself up and closing his eyes.
Scott doesn't know how long it's been, until he hears someone calling his name.
Scott slowly opens his eyes and looks up, only to see a worried Mitch in front of him. "M-Mitchy?"
"Scott, you had me so worried-" Mitch pulls him into a hug. "What happened?"
"D-Damien... Damien! I saw him!" Scott cries, tears pouring out of his eyes. "He was outside, Mitchy!"
Mitch pulls away from the hug, frowning at Scott. "Scott, Damien isn't outside. He's in jail," he says. "Damien isn't even in our state anymore."
Scott looks around and sees a couple people staring at him, causing him to whimper.
Mitch takes a deep breath. "Scott, we should go home-" He tries helping Scott up, but Scott refuses.
"I-I can't go out there, Mitchy! He'll get me!"
"Sir, is there someone I should call?"
Mitch looks over and sees the manager standing there. "No. I-I can handle it. Give me a few seconds, please," he says. He looks at Scott again. "Scott, Damien isn't here. I promise. Would I lie to you?"
Scott looks up at Mitch and sniffs, before shaking his head. "N-No,"
"Right. So, you just have to trust me, Scotty. Come on," Mitch gently takes Scott's hand and helps him up. He gives the manager an apologetic look before leading Scott out of Starbucks.
Scott looks around, but he doesn't see a sign of Damien anywhere. "B-But I saw him..."
Mitch looks up at Scott. "Scotty, Damien wasn't here..." He says nervously.
Scott buries his face in his hands, breaking down. "I'm never going to be a real Alpha!"
Mitch gasps and wraps his arms around Scott, wanting nothing more than to just comfort the Alpha.
Mitch ends up calling Connie to take them home, neither of the two being in a condition to drive home. Connie promises Scott that she and Rick will pick his car up when he gets home.
"I don't understand. Why would he think that he saw Damien?" Mitch asks as he sits with Connie in the living room. He just finished telling her what happened when they were at Starbucks.
"He might have saw someone else who looked like him," Connie tells him. "It's very possible for something as little as that to set him off. The doctor said he will most likely suffer from PTSD."
"I guess that makes sense. But, he was so sure that he saw him..." Mitch frowns.
"Well, I'll call later tonight and make sure that Damien is where he's supposed to be. I'm sure he would be all over the news if he somehow escape out of prison to warn. I suppose he does have a lot of Alpha friends that could possibly help him escape. I doubt that happened though," Connie says.
"I just feel so bad for him. I wish there was something more that I could," Mitch sighs sadly.
"What you're doing is plenty. Just keep being there for him," Connie tells him.
"But, what if it's not enough?" Mitch asks, looking up at her. "Everything seemed to be going so well."
"Mitch, it's not your fault that Scott freaked out like that earlier. It had nothing to do with you," Connie says. "Scott needs someone like you to make him feel safe, and normal."
"So... I should just keep doing what I'm doing?" Mitch asks.
"Yes," Connie nods. "We still have a long way to go with Scott. But, hopefully... one day, he'll be happy."
"That's all I want for him. I just want my Alpha to be happy," Mitch says.
Scott frowns as he stands behind the wall, listening to his mom talking with Mitch. He feels so embarrassed with what happened earlier. Just when he starts feeling good about himself, this happens. Scott just wants to feel normal again. He wants to forget about Damien. He wants to make Mitch happy.
