"Did you know? Did you help Snoke locate the children? Did you train them?" She asked.
He turned to face her. From his expression she could tell he had not. She also sensed the disappointment he felt, from her still not trusting him.
"No." He replied. She still didn't trust him. Would she ever, he wondered.
"Hux took you and trained you to be an officer of the First Order. Given your first exposure was to the Resistance and Rebellion you won't be his star pupil anytime soon. The children on the other hand, he has taken from poverty and often miserable life's, for them this will be a place of wonder. A place they will be safe, well fed and clothed. They will go to school and learn the wonders of different worlds, they will learn to pilot ships as well as develop fighting skills. And at the same time begin their training with the ways of the Force. Hux is no Jedi, but he will teach them the ways of the Dark Side. I remember he always showed an interest in Sith teachings. It is from those lessons that many of the children in their desire to win, will destroy each other, their strength growing from their anger. Just as Snoke fuelled such anger in me, so too will Hux with these young minds."
"Will he be able to control them? Once they know he is no Jedi, will they not destroy him." She asked
"Hux doesn't know what he is creating. Before he realises the errors in his way, he will have lost everything. You thought me a monster, maybe you still do, but what these children will become is unthinkable"
He himself had been going down this path until the events of Crait pulled him free. He was no longer Kylo Ren. But neither was he Ben Solo. He was still torn, even after a year of drifting from one planet to another, avoiding detection and building up a network of people who would assist in his plans to pull the galaxy back into balance. He just needed the final piece. To be able to start putting plans into action. But he now saw it would not be so easy. Whilst he had no doubt she would come with him freely - had he not sensed her own determination to do something to help the children, unless she completely trusted him, darkness would rise.
"Ben", he lifted his gaze to her, every time she spoke his name was like a ray of light hitting him.
"I have to go, my shift will start soon and if I don't show, questions will be asked. Questions we can ill afford." She swung off the bed and went to the bathroom to get ready. When she passed him, she looked up, taking his arm and squeezing gently before saying, "I want to trust you. I do trust you, but please give me time. What ever happens I will be by your side. When my shift finishes we can make plans to leave. Stay here, I will return as soon as my shift is over."
He looked down on her clutching his arm. Yes they would leave, but the timing had to be just right.
Unfortunately he had misjudged Hux. He wasn't the bumbling General who had made it this far due to his ruthless tactics. The doors to Rey's quarters were opened and standing outside were two armed Stormtroopers and Hux beside them. Alongside Hux stood a young boy, looking up at Hux, awaiting something. The General didn't keep him waiting long, "You did well in your first assigned task." The boys face lit up, before he realised that this was inappropriate. The boy stood to attention.
"Well, the mighty Kylo Ren, again I find that you have failed. Bested by the scavenger girl. What, did you think I kept her as a way of ensuring the Rebellion didn't rise. Snoke was right, you are weak."
One of the Stormtroopers walked past them and to the bathroom before dragging Rey out. She was already in her uniform. In her small chamber, with all these people, it suddenly felt claustrophobic.
Her gaze shifted from Ben, to Hux and to the young boy. She was soon pulled from her thoughts when the Stormtrooper roughly grabbed her wrists and placed restraints on them. The other trooper did likewise with Ben, before they were both led out.
Hux stopped them as the Stormtroopers began to walk them presumably to holding cells.
"Stop! Just so you both know, if you try any Jedi mastery to escape, this will be on your heads," and with that he pulled his blaster out and shot the young boy dead.
"No!," Rey cried out, and tried to pull out of the Stormtroopers grasp.
"Take them both out of my sight", Hux said,  before turning on his heals and walking away.
Rey looked down at the fallen body of the young boy. She looked at Ben, his expression grim. They both thought, their minds as one, something had to be done. Hux had to be stopped.
