#62 He's A Football Player

or soccer for American readers ;)

Ashton:
I watch him as he sprints across the field following the player who currently is keeping the ball. Ashton keeps his eye on the player with the ball and I can see his competitive behaviour beginning to show.

He's always been a determined man and I admire it about him it's what makes him a brilliant player. Ashton runs his hands through his hair and I can see the sweat dripping off of him. Ashton runs to the player with the ball and takes it; he moves his leg and tackles the player. Ashton cascades across the pitch as if he was born for it, he sprints delicately and he's light on his feet. I cheer loudly for him as he makes it half way across the pitch with no obstacles. I can tell that he is about to pass to another player but that's when a member of the opposite team tries to take the ball from Ashton, consequently knocking him to the ground in an awkward position.

I gasp as Ashton's knee makes direct contact with the ground. He clutches his knee and groans, he attempts to stand up but he can't stay up without collapsing once again, causing him more discomfort.

A referee jogs towards him and blows a whistle. I don't move, I just watch for Ashton, praying that he finds the strength to stand up.

A paramedic shows up beside Ashton and kneels beside him as he turns on the ground, still clutching his injured knee. I start to panic; it looks more serious than a knock to the knee. The paramedic prods Ashton's leg and he groans loudly in pain. I can see his jaw clench and his grip on his knee becomes tighter.

I worry more for Ashton and I climb over the fence of where I was previously standing to watch the match. I don't care if it's against the rules; I need to make sure that he's not suffering. I see confused glances shared by the players and the crowd as I jog across the field.

The referee stands in front of me, blocking my path, "Ma'am, I'm going to have to ask you to return to your seat."

"Let me see my boyfriend," I demand, I'm not wasting my time with this ignorant man when I could be comforting Ashton.

"That's strictly against the rules," The referee argues.

"[Y/N]!" I hear Ashton groan from where he is lying, he must see me next to the referee.

I don't give the referee any of my attention as I jog passed him to see Ashton. The referee glares at me and I return the glare, I can't be bothered with his lack of consideration towards Ashton, he just wanted to see someone who could comfort him.

I kneel down next to Ashton who's still in a lot of pain, I run my hands through his slightly sweaty hair and grin at Ashton, assuring him that he'll be okay. A tear runs down his cheek and that's when I can tell he's in pain, I haven't ever seen him cry due to pain before and I don't want to see it again. "Ssh," I whisper as I use my thumb to wipe away his tear, "You'll be okay. I think they're getting an ambulance."

Ashton nods to me and calms down slightly. I think his discomfort wasn't so much due to the pain but due to his confusion as he didn't know what was going to happen. Ashton muttered, "Will you stay with me?"

I reply, "Of course, I'm not going to leave you. Although I'm going to be in deep shit with the referee the next time I see him."

Ashton looks at me with a puzzled expression and I chuckle, "I'll tell you about it later."

Luke:
He stands staring at the stadium, his hands are pressed together and a nervous expression in on his face. As he sees players from the other team arriving at the stadium he takes a deep breath. He's been worried about this game for weeks. He's always telling me about his coach being really hard on him on the other players, always pushing them too hard and making them exhausted. I guess it's a part of the job but it doesn't seem fair. I take his hand in mine and trace invisible patterns across his skin with my thumb.
